The night was gold

The night was gold.

Gold sheets draped against the wall with bronze dimonds every here and there to add sparkle to the royal color.
Chandeliers made smelted gold held candles which burned with a warm, golden undertone.

And the guests, they were beautiful. Every single one keeping with the warm theme which I had no knowledge on. The woman dressed in beautiful dresses from unimaginable red ballgowns to classy orange cocktail dresses, each with the accessory of a man hanging at their shoulders.

I on the other hand, stood out like a sore thumb-- dressed in a dress that looked like the stars. Silver and bright, a complete opposite from the warm theme I was not told of.

"Remember the first rule." The man with the black tailored suit warned.

Rule one: don't show emotions.

I thought that I was incapable of expressing any sort of pained emotion anymore, after the extensive punishments and lessons Soren and Erebus took time in teaching me.

But none of their teaching has prepared me for this. The judgmental, furry driven gazes from the woman around. The judgemental part, I was firmilar with, growing up on the street thought me to become immune to it. But these looks were different. Nobody had ever looked at me that way before.

"Why are so many of these woman looking at me like that? " I asked, trying to wipe my sweaty palms on the fabric of my dress.

"It's jealousy." He answered, looking painfully intense as we walk into the main hall. "You look beautiful Lace. They see you as competition."

"But why? The men in our gang all help each other and are always happy for each other. And they are murders and thieves."

"So is ever other person in here. Nobody in this room is a good person Lace."

Including me.

A same dawned every seat, and next to Erebus's was mine.

"So if everyone is so bad then why are we at a charity event?"

"We will have a meeting tomorrow and I'll explain everything."

"Erebus, the best himself. It's been long." An old man, dawned with a silver beard and eyes that yelled his worth.

He was shorter than Erebus, and looked nearly as intimating. Erebus nodded at the man, addressing his as Milo. An innocent name for a man who seemed far from it.

"And who is this lovely little lady?" He reached out for my hand, and brought it to his lips.

"Introduce yourself." Erebus urged.

"I'm Lacey, it's a a pleasure to meet you."

Milo looked at Erebus with a proud prince before eyeing me once again.

"Where'd you steal this beauty from?" Milo laughed as if it was a joke. I winced, not only from his total disregard to address me a person by ignoring me completely for everything but my appearance, but for the dark meaning behind his humor.

Erebus didn't answer. His eyes were ice, and by first glance he appeared as a statue.

"What would you say if I were to ask for a dance with the girl?" He licked his beared lips.

"I'd say that she's all yours."

I looked at Erebus is utter disbelief. First of all it w-.

"Behave, and just play along." Erebus leaned in and whispered into my eye, caressing a stray lock of hair that was once pinned by Soren himself.

Play along... I knew what he meant. Act like the dumb whore he thinks that i am. Just a dolled up face, and sude piece to a rich, handsome murder.

There weren't many people on the dance floor. Just a few couples and now, Milo and I.

He put a hand on my waist, and pulled me closer whilst swaying to the beat of the music.

"What's a beautiful young lady like yourself doing with a beast like Erebus? " he asked, whilst I nearly tripped over my own feet.

"What's a prestige man like yourself doing dancing with a girl like me? " I mean, it's not like Erebus would want me to tell a stranger that he was training me to he their ultimate destruction.

We continued dancing, and Milo kept asked mindless questions while I kept firing back with another question altogether.

I would have expected him to grow tired, but honestly, he seemed more intrigued.

Whilst dancing, I felt a pair of eyes burning into the back of my dress. It was Erebus, leaning against a chair with his blazer draped by one finger over his back, and in this other hand held a scotch.

He didn't seem happy, but then again he hardly ever was. We spoke through our eyes, first fighting for a battle of dominance then moving on to more pressing matters.

Then for some peculiar reason, my eyes ventured beyond him. To a man dressed in a red suit, long red hair and eyes that still haunt me till this day.
