Chapter 1
Ireland
After the longest flight in human history, just kidding though the flight was pretty long, we finally landed in Ireland. Dad wanted to speak with the Irish packs first seeing has how they were the bloodiest and fiercest warriors our kind could offer. In the past few years, the Mutts have become a plague to our world. More and more humans were becoming suspicious of our existence. And if we wanted to live in peace, we couldn’t let it stand.
It was rumored that a large group of Mutts attacked several packs here in Ireland last year, kidnapping hundreds of pups and murdering their parents. The Mutts were tracked down and slaughtered. Their bodies were left where they fell as a warning to others of what would happen if they tried the same.
I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn’t notice that Randy was calling my name until he touched my shoulder. I tensed and he slowly hugged me. “Are you alright sweetheart?”
“Yeah, sorry about that Dad. I was off in lala land.” I say with a goofy voice causing him to laugh. I smile as I grab my bags. Randy gave me a weird look, but grabbed his bags. Walking outside of the airport, we say a nice town car parked beside the curb. The smell of wolf reached us. Nodding to each other, we made our way towards it. The driver was standing at attention, his eyes staring straight ahead.
Dad stops in front of him and he speaks. “Are you Al- Mr. Randy Cortez and his daughter, Mrs. Marianne Bellflower Winchester?” He asks Dad, his accent making him sound drop dead gorgeous.
Randy nods and the man opens the truck and the side door. Grabbing our bags, he quickly puts them away and tells us to get in. He waits until we’re seated before closing the door and sliding into the driver’s seat.
For several minutes as we drive away from the airport, silence fills the car. It wasn’t until the forest surrounds us that he starts to talk. “The alpha said that you would be coming. How are things on your side of the world?”
“Dangerous and crappy.” I mutter when Randy doesn’t speak up. When he chuckles, I realize that I spoke out loud. “Crap. Sorry.” I say but he smiles at me. “It’s alright. I expected you to be outspoken.” I give him a weak smile and look out my window. My wolf and I were missing Cass so bad. It hurt to be so far from him.
Dad was telling the driver something, but I wasn’t paying any attention. I was mentally thinking about how I would get Cass to agree to move to Ireland. The beauty that surrounded me was absolutely breathtaking. I wanted to stay awake and watch the scenery fly by, but my body had other ideas. Slowly, my eyes closed and my breathing slowed. Sleep had found me at last.
I woke up to the sound of doors slamming. Randy pulled me out of the car and started carrying me towards a house. I noticed how dark it was. The smell of several wolves hit me, but I was too sleepy to do anything. By the time he laid me on a bed, I was already asleep again. This time, I was joined in my dreams by Cass.
Several hours later, I awoke. Hearing voices down the hall, I slowly make my way towards them. Sitting in the den with my father was two other guys. I knew they were wolves by their smells. Randy looks up and smiles at me. This caused the other guys to stop talking and look up as well. They smile when they see me, and I smile back.
Walking over to them, I sit on the couch beside my dad. “What are y’all talking about?”
“We’re talking about signing a treaty with Hell’s Fury pack. We agree that it would be to our advantage to have the strongest pack on our side if it comes to war with the Mutts.” The guy that spoke sounded confident, so I assumed he was the alpha.
I nod at them as I lay against Randy. “They want war alright. They would be willing to kill anyone to start it so they could get their filthy hands on what they want.” I mumble knowing they could hear me.
“And what do they want?”
“I don’t mean to sound full of myself, but the Mutts want me.” I tell them. The alpha’s eyes darken a little as a smile plays on his lips. “And just why would the Mutts want you, besides from the fact that you are the Luna of the biggest pack in history?”
“I am a very special wolf.” I say softly looking at my dad. He nods slowly and smiles.
“Have either of you heard the story of the silver wolf?” He asks, keeping his face and voice void of any emotion. “No.”
“Well, it’s about time you have.” Randy sits back further into the couch as he starts the story. An hour later, he finishes. They just look at me with such awe and surprise on their faces. “But you seem so, so…”
“Weak?” I ask and they nod slowly, not wanting to upset me. I smile letting them know they hadn’t. “Looks can be so deceiving can’t they? I didn’t shift until I was just shy of 19. And only then because my father here was surrounded by Mutts. I had seen my entire adoptive family killed by Mutts when I was 10. I had just found Randy, and there was no way I was going to lose him to some stupid Mutts. I got so mad, that all I saw was red. The next thing I know, I shifting.”
I hid a yawn as I lay my head on Randy’s shoulder. Never in my life have I been this tired. It’s the pup. My wolf tells me softly. Ahh, so I am pregnant. Won’t that tickle Cass when he finds out? I sigh and close my eyes. I was not looking forward to being this sleepy during the entire pregnancy.
