Chapter 9

Dreams & Peace

They say that the alpha king had many gifts. And one of those gifts was the ability to dream walk. As I stood on the beach watching the sunset, I knew the rumors to be true. For standing beside me was my alpha king. I smiled at him as he took my hand. We stood there until the soon disappeared and the moon started to rise. I leaned onto him, afraid to let him go.

I knew that both Cass and our pup were gone. It saddened me that I didn’t get to say goodbye to them. Tommy wrapped his arms around me before he spoke. “Don’t stop fighting love. I need you. I wouldn’t be able to live without you. And your fathers need you. We would be a mess without you here to help guide us.” I smile at him. “Tommy, I know that you would be fine.” He shakes his head no. “Did you know that since the moment you left, I have been missing you like crazy? I finally couldn’t stand the distance between us and I was on my way to you when I heard that the Mutts attacked. I was just a few hours out when I felt your pain.

“I knew then that Cass had been killed. The bond between us had become strong enough for me to be able to feel as that Mutt attacked you. For a second, I thought I had lost you. And to be honest with you love, I almost snapped at that thought. I don’t know what I would do if I lost you Mari.” His voice was as soft as the breeze that blew through my hair.

“I’ll fight for you Tom, for our chance together.” He smiles at me and places a soft kiss on my forehead. I turn back to stare at the moon only to find myself alone in my dream once more.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. The constant beeping sound was just about to get on my last nerve. Opening my eyes slowly, I groaned at the bright light that was shining in them. Letting my eyes adjust before looking around, I use my hearing to scan the room. Only two heartbeats echoed in my ears and I knew that the second one wasn’t my pup. The memory of Tom attacking me on the field flashed back in my mind. The price I paid to become free from the Mutts was dear: my mate and my child.

Turning my head slowly, I smile when I see Tommy curled up in a very small chair. His 7 foot frame did not look comfortable at all. I look down at my bed. He wouldn’t fare any better lying next to me, but at least he’d have a little more room. “Tommy.” I call softly. He’s mutters something and twists around still asleep. “Tommy.” I call louder. This time his eyes fluttered open before they closed again. “Tommy Bell!” I yell. He jumps out of the chair and looks around the room. I already have a smile on my face before his eyes find mine.

He just stands there frozen as he stares at me. “You know, if this is how you’re going to react every time I end up in a hospital bed, I don’t think you’ll do to well if we have pups.” A deep red starts to slowly crawl up his face and I laugh. Tommy Bell, alpha king, is actually blushing. I pat my bed, and he slowly sits down. “Mari, you’ve been out for almost a month. You had all of us worried to death about you.”

“I’m sorry Tommy. But you know me; I’m too stubborn to stop fighting.”

“That I do love, but that doesn’t mean I’ll ever stop worrying about you.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I say softly and he groans. He wraps his arms around me and I lay my head on his shoulders. “How many people did we lose?” I ask softly.

“Two hundred were injured, but only fifty died. The Mutts are all either dead or awaiting their punishments in the cells.”

            “What about Tom, Cass’s beta?”

“That Mutt was personally handled by me.” The venom I heard in Tommy’s voice surprised me. “He attacked my mate with the intention of killing you. So, I personally killed him. His death was slow and very, very painful.”

“And what of Michael, he only did what he did to protect his pack and his family?”

“Your fathers demoted him. They said that he has to gain their trust back, but they didn’t kick him out of the pack. He lost two of his pups.” I nod. “Get some sleep love. Now that you’re awake, we’ll be going home soon. Everything’s over and you’re safe.” I smile as my eyes close. Lying here with Tommy, wrapped in his arms, I’ve never felt safer.
