Chapter 7

Betrayal Always Fails

Lynx and I head to the cells to deal with the captured Mutts. As we walked past the cells, I was surprised to see two very familiar faces. I stop and turn towards one of the silver cells. Sitting on the cot before, chained to the wall, sat Tom and Michael. I could feel the anger roll off of Lynx as he sees his beta sitting in the cell. Taking a deep breath, the smell of blood hits me. Looking at their hands, I see that it’s Tom who was covered in blood. The scent was familiar to me. It was Mari’s blood, of that I was sure.

As we kept staring at them, they had enough sense to keep their eyes lowered. “Why?” Lynx manages to ask. I could hear the hurt of Michael’s betrayal in his voice. “I’m so sorry Ly…Alpha. They kidnapped my family and threatened to kill them all if I didn’t help them sneak into our territory. That’s why I suggested we move the sentries up in the trees. That way, they would be able to see better, but also, the Mutts wouldn’t know I had crossed them and they wouldn’t kill my family.”

I look at Tom, but he just shrugs. I sigh and shake my head. Of the two people that the Mutts could have flipped, these two never entered my mind. “Why do you have Mari’s blood on your hand, Mutt?” Lynx’s voice fills the room. Every head is turned in our direction. “That she-wolf killed my mate. Luna or no, she wasn’t getting away with that. She took something from me, so I took something in return.” He smiles sending shivers down my spine. “In fact, I took two things from her. I took her mate and her pup.” At his words, growls erupted from all over the room. Michael looked like he was going to be sick.

I hear Dean behind me, so I turn to face him. “Sir, the alpha king’s here. He wishes to speak to either of you.” Lynx and I nod. Turning back to the cells, I frown. “We’ll be back to take care of you Tom. As for you Michael, Dean here will be moving you to another cell. Not even you should have to share a cell with him.” Michael nods his thanks to me and I leave. I found myself feeling sorry for Michael. A wolf would do anything for his or her mate. They would even betray their pack to keep them from dying. I knew that Lynx and I would go easy on him, but for Tom, well he signed his death warrant when he attacked Mari.

As we walked out of the dungeon, I heard Lynx mumbling to his self. I place my hand on his shoulder. “Mari will be alright Lynx. She’s a strong one. The loss of both Cass and the pup will hit her hard when she wakes up, but I have a feeling that she will recover. She’ll just need time Lynx. Time and all of the love and support we can give her. But she will make it.”

He gives me a weak smile but doesn’t say anything. I know that he’s just as worried about her as I am. I can’t lose her. But I know that she’ll pull through. She’s to much like me to just stop fighting.

Hey guys, sorry this chapter's shorter than the others. I was getting a little blocked and I couldn't think of anything else to write. I'll try to make the next few chapters a little longer to make up for it.
