Chapter 18

-Can I go out with you?-

~Verene’s P.O.V~
This is the first time that they both going to school together but maybe except for Jotu. He has been to school before when he was 13.
But I’m so proud of myself that I can pick a normal human school for them. I felt so happy.
Right now, I’m with Kakuzu but I also wanted to say thank you to him because he was the one who choose the school for them.
And also, it’s because of Kakuzu’s new face and body. He somehow looks younger than me. And I can’t really look at him a little longer than I used to when he was his own self.
“Hey.”
I almost jump out from the ground. “W-What?”
“Aren’t you feel anything that will hurt you? Because you are under the sun.”
I was holding an umbrella and I think I’m okay.
“No, not at all…” I chuckle.
And of course, I don’t like his attitude. He still act like the same Kakuzu when I first met him. Reading his old books, sleeping and strolling around alone.
I was wondering if I can go out with him, keep him company and where does he go everyday. Okay, here goes nothing.
“Erm, Kakuzu?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you have any plans today?” ‘Seriously Verene’
“Nothing, reading and walking around.”
I coughed a little. “Do you mind if I… join you today?” I gulp
“What about the sun? Wouldn't that hurt?”
“I got an umbrella! Don’t worry.”
Kakuzu looks at me suspiciously.

~Kakuzu’s P.O.V.~
Does she actually ask me that? Like on a date? No no , that’s impossible. She would never like me. She just wants to accompanying me, right? Nothing much. Okay, calm down me.
“Are you sure you want to join me?” I asked.
“Yes, if you wouldn't mind, I guess,” she said.
“Hmm… alright then… just give me some time to be alone. I’ll call you when I’m ready.” ‘Really, Kakuzu, you are stupid’
“Really? Okay then.” she smiles and then she flew.
What was I thinking? My mouth just act on his own. I’m really am stupid. I started to wonder… does she in love with me too?
Curse that fairy for giving me this face and body, I don’t deserve this shit.

~After a long day and third person P.O.V coming right up~
Kakuzu is ready, he calls Verene outside. As soon as he calls, Verene arrived.
“I’m here.” She smiles when he reach the ground.
Kakuzu face just turns red when he saw her. “L-let’s go…”
Verene nods.

As soon as they started walking, they didn’t make a sound except the sound of their foot step.
“Ehem…” Kakuzu started. “So… where do you usually likes to do besides killing people?”
Verene is thinking about it. “Teach people a lesson?”
“You… teach? How?”
“Well, usually I teach them about manners, people these days are so cruel and inappropriate. That’s why I teach them a lesson.”
“You mean, giving them some advise or inspiration? Words or phrase?”
“Yeah, something like that.” Verene chuckled.
After that, they shut their mouth again.

~Verene’s P.O.V~
What am I thinking and what are you saying? It’s ridiculous. I feel like I want to bang my head on the wall for being so stupid. Okay, calm down Verene. The day is not over yet. You still got chance.
Several hours later, Kakuzu leads me to the park.
“Erm, this is the park you always visit?” I asked.
Kakuzu nods. “Come on.”
I followed him and there’s a few people here.
“So, what do you normally do at the park?”
“I just sit on the bench and read my book.”
“Oh, I see, haha…” Why am I not surprise…
I sit next to him and it’s almost sunset. It’s so peaceful here and the air is almost fresh because we are surrounded by tress. (You don’t say ahahah)
“So… Verene…” Kakuzu startled me.
“Y-yes?”
“How do you …survive , because you are a vampire , you must have live long.”
Okay, that was come out of nowhere, especially him. I clear my throat before I started talking.
“I keep on living. Keep searching for food, besides human’s blood. I also drink animal’s blood when I have no choice. My parents said I must live so that there’s more vampire in this world. I always keep myself from danger and also I wanted to protect Yerene. She was all alone when I found her, covered with blood. She accept me as her friend and she always wanted to live normally like a human being. And now, I’m glad that her dream came true.” I ended there.
“Oh…”

~Kakuzu’s P.O.V.~
I wanted to read my book alone today, but having Verene here makes me calm and somehow comfy in a way that I can’t describe.
“When you… *cough* I mean do you have any siblings?” I asked.
“Well… yes… I have a sister… she went to her boyfriend’s place right now.”
“So you are… the eldest?”
“Yes…” Verene nods. “I miss her though.” She looks down.
I’ve never talk so much in my life before. Then, my heart begin to beating fast. Oh no… I got five hearts, she’s going to hear it for sure. I need to make it stop. I hate this feeling.
“Say… Kakuzu… what about you?”
“I’m alone. There’s no one takes care of me… except myself.”
“When you are alone, aren’t you feel bored?”
“Not really… I’m used to it.”
Verene giggled. “You really don’t like to hang out with people, aren’t you?”
Oh no…my heart… “Ugh..”
“Kakuzu, are you alright?”
“I-I’m alright… just give me a minute.” I can’t take it any more. I need to get away from Verene before she could hear all of my hearts.
“Are you really okay? Do you want to go to hospital or-?
“I’m fine…”
I’m doomed.

~Verene’s P.O.V~
I hear something and it rhymes perfectly.
“Kakuzu… did you hear that?”
“H-hear what?”
“It sounds like…a beating heart. But it’s getting faster.”
Kakuzu gasp and his face was all red. I chuckled a bit.
“Is that …yours?” I curiously ask.
“P-please… not another word, I can’t make it stop…”
I saw his face, struggling to make it stop, is he really nervous about me around him when there’s no people here.
“I know how to make it stop…” I said with a smirk.
“How…?”
I saw in the television when Yerene and Hidan were watching together, it was a romance TV series, and I happen to know this.
I put my both hands on Kakuzu’s cheeks. I come closer to his face and gently put my lips against his. I stayed for about 2 minutes and then I let it go.
Kakuzu’s heart stop beating and then he pass out.
I say the phrase out loud “That’s the way to stop your heart.”

~Kakuzu’s P.O.V~
I opened my eyes and there’s Verene.
“Are you alright? How are you feeling?” She smile softly.
“What did you just do to me? My head hurts.” As soon as I reach out to touch my head, I felt her hand. Her hand is rubbing my head softly. Wait, my head is on her lap. I let go of my hand and I can feel my face burn.
Verene wasn’t looking at me but then she said, “Kakuzu… do you love me?”
It wasn’t a dream is it? I would like to wake up now. But no, she is actually just asked me that. I don’t know how to respond.
But then she said while looking down. “Haha…silly me… of course you don’t, I’m sorry Kakuzu… for wasting your time with me.” Verene was about to flew but I hold her hand tightly.
“I LOVE YOU, VERENE!”
Verene stops and look back at me. “Y-You do?”
“Yes, Verene.” I said with serious tone. Her face started burn until she has no pale face like she had.
I feel like confessing at park was not the best place for Verene so I took her hand and began to run.
“Eh? Kakuzu, where are we going?”
“Just come with me.”

~Verene’s P.O.V~
I can’t believe Kakuzu just confess his love to me. This is the most happiest day ever in my life. I wonder where he takes me this time.
A few minutes of running, we arrived. And we are at the beach.
“What are we doing here?”
“To see the sunset, you love it don’t you?”
I can’t believe it, it was beautiful. I almost want to cry.

~Kakuzu’s P.O.V~
This is the perfect place to confess it. I hold her hand gently and I wanted to redo my love confession to her.
“Verene…”
She look at me, with a teary eyes. I assume she is happy or that she didn’t care about her , burning her skin. I took out the umbrella and give it to her.
“Thank you, Kakuzu.” She thank me.
“Verene, all this time I was just thinking about you, since you throwing a birthday party, I started to think about you. I don’t know why you being so nice to me but I don’t care, all I care is… I always wanted to love someone, other than love myself.”
I feel like the more I talk, the less evil I’ve become. I look at Verene’s eyes, she was already crying.
“You want me to stop, Verene?” I was getting worried.
Verene shakes her head. “No, it’s just perfect, Kakuzu… I’m so happy.” She pulled me close, and then we are hugging.
“I’m glad that you are here, Kakuzu…”
“M-me too, Verene…” I couldn’t resist, I hug her tightly.

After the sunset, we are sitting on a tree branch. Holding hands and Verene puts her head on my shoulder.
“I thought you didn’t like me, Kakuzu…”
“W-Well… everyone else thinks that way… because of my face…”
Verene laugh softly. “Yeah, you look evil…”
I’m still new at this relationship and I didn’t know what to do next.
“Kakuzu…”
“Yes?”
“Please take care of me until the end, okay?” Verene said that like she was going to die early and I hit her with my knuckle, not too hard.
“Don’t be stupid, you are a vampire.”
“I am, but vampires can die too…”
“Alright, I will Verene.”
