Changbin's POV"Hyunjin, watch your left!"
"Minho, run faster!"
"Come on, Seungmin, you can do better than that!"
Sometimes I wonder how these boys survive in this pack. They may have the skill, but they lack the determination. Since our alpha is away, I'm in charge. That's the one thing I hate about being the beta, I'm the substitute alpha. It's not all bad though, the boys respect me, and I respect them back.
We have been training 24/7. I know we are all exhausted, but we have to keep training. I don't know why, though, we've been training hard for almost two years.
Before, we were a simple pack. We only trained once a week, and the rest of the time was spent on the couch or in bed, enjoying our free time. Then one day, our alpha came back from a trip. He seemed broken. He told us that we weren't going to be a lazy pack anymore.
We started training every day, for about ten hours. We thought it would end, but it never did. We became stronger, faster, and ten times better at fighting. We still don't know why we are pushed to continue training, but we're not dumb enough to ask and potentially anger the alpha.
Right now, all of the guys are doing their own thing. Hyunjin is working with Jeongin on their combat skills. Jeongin has gotten much better over the past few months. Then we have Minho, who is running laps around the yard. Jisung, and Seungmin are climbing on the cliff that's behind the packhouse. I think they're racing. If so, Jisung is winning. A little competition never hurt anybody. And me, I'm doing pull-ups while watching the others.
Felix said he was going for a run; he shouldn't be taking this long. I'm worried, but I know he can take care of himself. Felix knows these woods better than anyone, except for our alpha.
As I'm thinking, I catch a glimpse of something walking in the woods. It's Felix. He's carrying something . . . someone?! Is that a body?! I go up to him, worried. "What happened? Who is that? Are you okay?" I'm panicked; I had no clue what was going on.
"I don't know what happened. I was on my run, and I found her. I think she was attacked," Felix's sentences were very rushed. He was very clearly out of breath. He must have been running in human form. The other boys are now beside us, looking at Felix and the girl concerned.
"What should we do with her?" Minho seems very wary of the situation. All of the boys do. There was hesitance in their eyes. Their eyes seemed to dart between the girl in Felix's arms and me. Since the alpha wasn't here, I was the next person in charge. But even I didn't know what to do.
"I'm going to put her in the guest room. I'm not going to leave her out there to die. I don't care what anyone says. I found her, and now I'm going to take care of her," Felix turns to me, looking for permission. I just nod my head, thinking about how badly this entire thing is going to blow up in my face. Chan is going to kill me.
Two Day Time Skip
Chan's POV
I can't wait to return home. I have been away for two weeks, busy doing business with my brother's pack. I miss the boys. I miss my bed. I miss taking my daily runs through our territory and the view of the moon from the roof.
I'm almost to the house; about three miles left. Tired of walking in my human form, I shift into my wolf and start running, the urge to get home getting stronger and stronger. As I get closer and closer to the house, I can smell freshly cooked food from the kitchen, I can hear the boys in the living room taking their lunch break, and I can see the cliff edge. I stop in front of the house and change back to human form. I'm finally home.
I walk up to the door and give the 'secret knock' that Jeongin and Seungmin came up with shortly after they both joined the pack. They were pretty young back then.
I hear someone dash to the door, yanking the door open harshly. "Chan your back!" It's Jisung. He sounds happy, but he doesn't look happy. He's faking a smile, and his hands are shaking. Something's wrong.
I walk into the house and notice that the others are looking nervous too. "It's great to have you home, Chan." Changbin seems calm, but I can tell he's feeling guilty about something.
That's when it hits me. A strange smell. The boys were using the food as a coverup to hide the smell. But where is it coming from?
I start to walk to my room, but Felix stops me. "You should sit down for a little while; you must be tired from traveling." This made me upset. What are they trying to hide?
At this point, I'm getting angry. I want to know what that smell is. "I'm not doing anything until I find the source of that smell," I snapped at Felix.
Before anyone can say anything, I run upstairs. Where is it coming from? I follow the sent to the guest room. I open the door and . . .
A/N: Cliffhanger! Sorry guys, but I'm going to end this chapter here. I'll let you guess what happens next.
