Chapter 12

Ian's Law

Jennifer caught his hand and smiled. Ian smiled back and followed her to what seemed to be a dungeon. "What is this place, An interrogation room of some sort?"

"It's my house" she replied

"No, I meant no offence but still this does not look like one."

"What do you mean by 'does not look like'? It is my ancestral house."

"Well, Well, Well I see so all of the people here are outlaws or criminals of some sort."

"This place was not built for outlaws but for protecting ourselves from them and if you dare say another word of that sort, I'm gonna break those perfect teeth of yours."

Ian knew that he should not have said that as all night was spent by Jennifer in a bad mood.

The next day, he approached her.

"So, Jen I wanted to ask you something."

"What is it now Ian?" she grunted

"So, what is the condition of the outside world after me being framed?" Jennifer gulped a little

"Nothing much, Lannan has become their hero and you, a devil, a devil who destroyed people's life and family, a devil who killed and slaughtered for his personal benefit."

"And do you believe these words?"

"How can I? she told shakily

"Jen, don't lie to me. I can see it in your eyes, you do think that I am the real culprit. Don't you?" he asked

"For god's sake Ian, no"

"I am not telling you anything Jen, I'm just understanding your feelings. My mind tells me that you do think that I'm the criminal."

"And do you have proof?" she asked

"Your top is soaked with sweat Jen. I knew that you've been hiding something from me from the start and no, I'm not gonna ask any more questions to you. How did you know I was coming or How did you feel after I was gone for I understand your feelings and truly love you and sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your loved ones and if its this then be it."

Ian stood up and took his bag back. He then stepped forward and kissed Jennifer on her cheek and then opened the door and left by the stairs. He could have sworn that he heard a distant call of "Ian" but no there was no turning back. He knew that she was hiding a feeling of hers from him and that it was that she no longer loved him but he did and he was not going to change his affection towards her. Not even for love itself.

At the time of leaving, badass courage had gotten into him but it had escaped long ago and changed into a rabbit's fright. He didn't know where was he supposed to go. All the options were closed and he wished that he had stayed and Abimbola's. With nowhere to go and only 30 days left, he had nothing but a grudge against the criminal, Lannan and a lost love. He even had thoughts that the next day, Jennifer would go to work and Lannan would steal her from him too. He had stolen everything from him and he wished that he knew that he was the culprit from the start but now, he could do nothing but walk by a lonely road dreaming and snoozing with thoughts from all around the world. Once, he even got the thought of leaving Australia and living in the Himalayas of Nepal as a saint, probably cursing Lannan all the time.

His legs had become tired as he was just walking on the road in rounds for the past hours, thinking whether he should surrender himself to the police and stop to struggle or fight to the death boldly, like a wounded lion.
