Chapter 14

The Leeward Claws

The next days changed Ian's whole concept of criminals. He had thought that criminals do wrong for attaining something but no, it was not the reality for reality can often be disappointing! He had now lost any contact to the outside world and he had forgotten it. He forgot that was just a month left before the deadline ended, he forgot about the traitor Lannan and he forgot about Jennifer but still, he was a detective after all and all he could think was that Why did James hate Lazam after all? And he had tried to understand the complicated Claw but no, he couldn't he wasn't able to for he was just another dumbass with some pieces of metal pinned to his shirt in honour of his bravery, his intelligence he had thought but no, for he didn't understand life and was suspicious about everything. Somethings are better off left alone he thought to lie on the small bed that he had received.

He suddenly fidgeted. His mind was thinking about nothing but one and only one person, Jennifer, her dear Jennifer. Had she left him just because of his suspicious mind? He suddenly rose up. He could not remain in bed any longer. He stood up at once and went out of his tent.

He had thought gangs to be just a few young men and women plotting and planning for committing a crime but this place was certainly nothing like that. Yes, only young boys and girls were present but they just didn't have this place like a hideout but it was actually a community, a village where everybody was helping each other to do some or the other work and live like one big and happy family. This was the other side of the claws, nice and clean and dry.

He tried to help the claws in doing some work but, they just did not want him to do any work of theirs. It was as if they thought that he would ruin everything and what was wrong in them thinking like that? He was an unfaithful detective after all! Something in his heart was poking him day and night and it felt that he knew what it was but he just did not want to believe in it and he went inside his tent and started listening to music again.

Night fell and Lannan heart had become as cold as a cave stone. Was he worthy? He did not know and he could not stop himself anymore and then he decided to visit James' tent. He quietly went across the clearing and entered the tent making no sound at all. James was sitting in an armchair and drinking a cup of coffee.

"And what do you need now?" He asked

"James, I wanna ask you something."

"Officer, remember you're not at your police station. I can blast that brain of yours at any goddamn moment!"

"Seriously, do you think yourself to be Robin Hood of some sort? You know what there you go. Kill me if you can." Said Ian in a slightly raised voice

"Mark my words Officer, you're gonna regret it." Said James in a higher and challenging tone

"Lemme show you whose gonna regret it!" said Ian in an even higher tone

Now, even people were coming to see what was happening. A woman opened the tent and saw James' gun pointed at Ian and then it all happened in 5 seconds. James pulled the trigger indeed but, the gun slipped out of his hand for some reason and shot a young man instead. James suddenly rose up and groaned "Water, water" and then he said nothing but fell to the floor.

Two men ran to see what had happened to their dear master and then they told that the unforgivable had happened.

James Law was dead and all the suspicion fell on Ian. Law's body was kept in a bag and Ian was tied to a chair in that very tent. It was the next day that someone entered the tent and sat in a chair in front of him. He was wearing a demonic mask which was silver coloured and had teeth made on it. Ian asked immediately
