In a town as small as Bekenstein, the story begins like a normal day. A 16 year old Hela Barnes, skipping her breakfast as usual and jogging down her street for the first day of sophomore year. Another student Rebecca Brown, gracefully entering the backseat of her Porsche, after a perfect English breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast, on the way to her first day as a sophomore too. And at last, Mike Anderson, unconscious of the fact that summer was now over, skipping down the steps, a toast shoved in his mouth and laces untied, well, again.
Eastview high. The place where it all begins. The place that will be needed to be forgotten......probably for good. The place from what all emerges – the memories, the friendships, the moments and the chaos, the drama and the unforeseen problems.
But for the time being, the place whose gates Hela Barnes just enters, and also where Mike Anderson and Rebecca Brown are yet to reach.
The wind howls as all other students arrive through the gates, hustling and bustling down the corridors. Friends greeting each other with a hug while the newcomers stand looking scared. The seniors standing tall and proud, confidence born of experiences. The bell rings and everybody runs except an occasional slowcoach or chatterbox, as in the case of Mike. Everyone goes in except a few and the hustle is almost dead now; still standing at the doors, Hela smiles to herself. "Another school year begins," she thinks before smiling and running in to join the others.
Another one of the new comers, Rebecca Brown enters the school doors, her inner critique-self blooming as she takes a look at the bland hallway in front of her. The walls definitely painted by someone either obsessed by grey or by a maniac depressive, she thinks. Looking at the paintings that were hung up on the walls, she had an irresistible urge to paint the walls rainbow or better yet, replace the roofs with a glass dome. Scoffing at the condition of lockers, she walks by the prison-hued walls into the classroom, as standing still at such a place was never a great idea.
Entering the class, Hela looks around and smiles to herself spotting the secluded seat by the window. There are only few other students in the class right now, but this does not phase Hela as she's always one of the early comers. Plugging her ear-buds in, she takes out her essentials for Mr. Blake's math class. Vibing with her music, she is concentrated on her math equation. It's a curse she is interested in a subject as hard as math, and is good at it too!
Cracking her knuckles as she completed a sum, she looks up to see crowds of students entering the class. Putting out her music, she straightens her posture and looks up in time to see Mike nearly crashing on the teacher's desk as the bell rings. Mike groans as he notices Mr. Blake shaking his head at him from the door. Going to the end of the class, he slumps in the seat beside Hela, hiding his face in the bag. Hela chuckles at his overacting grabbing Mike's attention to herself. Well, they have been classmates since last few years so there is not much awkwardness between them.
"You were solving MATH before the class, what are you, Newton!?" Mike jokes as he looks over her notebook.
She just rolls her eyes in response and gestures him to pay attention to Mr. Blake's lecture. Students are whispering amongst themselves, only a few actually paying attention to the class, when all of a sudden the noise dies down and Mr. Blake stops speaking, making everybody to look up. There she casually stood, in her blue ripped jeans and a fashionable white top. A new face to the class, not a bit of confusion over her face, she enters the class and apologizes to Mr. Blake for being late.
"Ah! You must be the new girl, Rebecca, is it?" Mr. Blake asks to which she just nods. Turning towards the class, "Students, she is Rebecca Brown, a new comer to Bekenstein. Please help her while needed and be friendly", he says. Not being a much fan of small talks, he asks Rebecca to sit in front of Hela, the only seat available, beside none other than Jackson Hayes.
