Last chapter ended with:
"Hey..Rebecca, Rebecca Brown". She smiles back and shakes my hand firmly, "Hey! Hela, Hela Barnes. Actually um," she continues "Mr. Blake was just asking me to give you a school tour, it's your free class right now too, right?" I glance at my schedule and notice that I indeed have a free period. "Great! Shall we go then?" she asks as I nod in approval.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Shall I take you to your locker first," Hela says as they start walking down the hallway, "I usually start off my tours with a little history," she continues. "Eastview high first opened its doors in 1932 and sadly it hasn't been redecorated since. Mayor denies changing even the broken window panels," she disapprovingly says.
They walk towards the giant faded metal doors at the end of the hallway, dull and spotted with years of water damage and most probably student nuisance. Rebecca noticed that despite the faded color of the doors, the handle had a metallic shine to it. "Except the handles. The school changes all the door handles after every two months, and believe me, I have been here since like forever, and I still do not know the logic behind it."Hela added as she noticed Rebecca staring at the handles, making Rebecca even more confused.
"Okayyyy, so Eastview high hasn't been redecorated since forever but the handles are changed THIS frequently! I think I might be a little confused but okay," Rebecca trailed off as Hela looked at her with mocking pity in her eyes.
Tucking her arm in Rebecca's, she swung the door open and noticed as Rebecca gasped audibly. They had finally entered Bekenstein's largest and most probably the only library at Eastview high.
"Wow!"Rebecca gulped as she looked around the high antique-looking shelves, "Mason would've absolutely loved this. He'd wanted to come here too"
"Mason?" Hela asks her.
"My little brother," She says before hesitantly continuing, "Actually, step-brother. He wanted to join us too. But he's with my dad back at Colorado."
"Aah I see! Maybe we'll meet someday, who knows?" Hela shrugs off the topic sensing that Rebecca was not too comfortable talking about any of these things. Rebecca couldn't have been more grateful.
They walk out the giant library hall and walk down another hallway that Rebecca hadn't noticed earlier.
"Anyway, what's the social scene like in here?" Rebecca asks something for the first time to Hela but instead is answered by the boy she first noticed in her first math class.
"We have a strip club downtown and a very sick bar for us underage folks. Saturday mornings we have music and club meet at school," the boy starts ranting off, "which anyone ever hardly comes to by the way. Saturday nights are religiously for football and thank god Sundays we have movie nights. BUT come early to get a seat, cuz no reservation in Bekenstein-mansion!" he finally took a break from his rant and Rebecca could say that the hilarious boy had a horrible rhyme-scheme.
Hela shook her head as she finally introduced them both. "Rebecca Brown," she gestures towards the boy, "this is Mike Anderson." "And Mike," she continues "this is our new guest, Rebecca Brown."
"So Rebecca, is it true what they say about your grandmother?" Mike whispers leaning towards Rebecca, gaining a disapproving eye stare from Hela.
Rebecca's spine stiffened as she managed to choke out, "That she is a-" but was cut off by the school bell that indicated for their lunch time.
She takes in a deep breath and glancing between them she asks, "Does literally everyone here know?"
Hela kind of looks away from her and Mike makes a guilty expression which makes Rebecca angry, if not scared. "Wonderful! 10 mins in here, and I am already 'famous' in Eastview high." She says and then angrily stomps away to the school cafeteria.
