Chapter 5

It's been a week since Mayah's come out of the bedroom. All the guys went to check on her but she didn't respond. They would leave her meals outside her door which most of the time went untouched. Roach specifically wanted to avoid business in front of her because of her fragile state. "Mayah, its Roach. Mayah come one kid. Open up" he begged. "I'm sorry you had to see that but I can explain."

A pit of guilt sat with her. All These guys have done was to help her. To protect her. He deserves the benefit of the doubt she thought climbing out of bed. Walking to the door, she unlocked it with a sad Roach staring at her.

"You didn't touch your lunch," he said eyeing the food on the floor walking past her into the room. "Your going to school starting tomorrow" he said trying to start their conversation on a positive note. He knew that's what she wanted more than anything. He pulled a brochure out of his back pocket. Handing it to her he brochure with a smile on his face he sat on her bed.

"Thank you! Thank you!" she squealed hugging him. "A private school?" she asked beaming.

"You will have company with you in school but yeah.   As long as you don't mind having shadows." he said standing up. "Two devils will be in school with you. They're the right age and haven't finished school so it works out." he said walking towards the door. He decided not to mention the little run in with Kace not wanting to damper the mood. "See you for dinner downstairs?" he asked looking over his shoulder.

Nodding with a smile she followed him down the steps to the kitchen. The rest of the night went by quickly. Excusing herself from the table she bounced up the stairs to get ready for school. Tomorrow I'm going to school. I might just make it she thought to herself retiring for the night.

Bouncing down the steps, Mayah rushed to the kitchen for her coffee. She wanted to be early to school for registration. After finishing her coffee, watching Chris, Kace and Roach exited Roach's office, she stood up smoothing the wrinkles on her uniform. Watching Kace and Chris grab books off the table, she realized those are the two assigned to watch her during school.

"Let's go" said Kace not glancing back at her.

Following behind him, Mayah waved to Roach and followed the two out the door. Watching Kace and Chris get on their motorcycles, she hesitated for a moment.

"Lets go" Kace says again turning to face a stunned Mayah. "We don't have all day," he added as Mayah climbed on the back of the motorcycle clutching to his body making him grin. He knew he was told she was off limits without permission from his president after his major mess up but he couldn't help but be attracted to her.

After a 30 minute drive to the school, the three pull up to the school. "I cant belive im back at fucking school" said Chris walking up to Mayah and Kace. "I know I have to earn my way in but this?" he said frustrated.

"Join the fucking club" added Kace. "At least you're here to earn your way. Im here on fuckin punishment!" he said grabbing his things. "Did Roach go over the rules?" he asked Mayah on the way into the school.

"Yes," she said following closely behind.

After registration and receiving her class schedule. Mayah made her way to her classes without any issues. Roach had arranged it that Mayah would have both Chris and Kace in almost all her classes. In three classes Kace and Chris had to split leaving just one of them with Mayah for science, math and gym.

Making their way to science, Kace and Mayah took their assigned seats a few rows from each other.

"Class, we have a science vocabulary test due in a week." said the teacher walking to the blackboard. "The person to your right will be your study partner for projects and group studies. Exchange numbers and emails and set up a time to work on assignments" she added writing on the board. "You will be responsible for your project which will be due one week from the vocab test. Don't waste your time fooling around." She handed out the vocabulary sheets and the project instructions.

Turning to her newly assigned partner she smiled. "I guess it's you and me" she said to him smiling shyly. He was handsome she thought but not my type if she had one. "My name is Mayah" she offered.

"Carlos" he said standing up with her to move to their project tables. The two exchange info and left class once the bell rung heading their end of the day specials. It turned out that Carlos almost had the same schedule as Mayah except for History. He pointed out the social clicks to her oblivious to Kace and Chris trailing behind them. Making their way out side after the end of the day bell rung, Carlos walked Mayah outside where a stretched limo awaited him. "You need a ride?" he offered.

Shaking her head , responded that she had a ride. They just hadn't made it out yet. Looking around with neither Chris nor Kace in sight, she decided to head back inside. She didn't want to get in trouble for breaking the number one rule of not leaving the school alone even though Carlos was with her.

"Hermano, I don't have all day" called a voice from behind her. "Who's this?" asked the man exiting the limo.

"Adriano, this is Mayah. We have class together" offered Carlos.

"Mucho gusto" he says taking her hand kissing the top of her hand. "I don't recall seeing you here before" he added.

"She's new" came Kace's voice from behind them. He walked up to Mayah and protective put his arm around his shoulders. "What are you doing outside?" he asked annoyed.

"You and Chris were behind us when we walked out. I didn't know you weren't still behind us" she said looking down at her hands.

Removing his arms from her shoulders he grabs her wrist pulling her towards the motorcycle. "She'll see you in class tomorrow" he said to Carlos brushing past him and his brother with Mayah close behind.

"Kace, we have our partner group-" she started before Chris cut her off.

"Not today. Let's go" Chrs mounted his Harley starting the engine.

Not wanting to cause any issues, Mayah mounted behind Kace looking at Carlos and Adriano. Ignoring their stares, Kace started the motorcycle, angrily peeling out of the school parking lot not taking note on how tight Mayah was squeezing his torso. Upset that she disobeyed the order about not leaving the school alone, he was already furious when exiting the school but seeing Carlos's brother kissing her hand set off a rage of jealousy within him. Pulling up to headquarters, Kace and Chris pull Mayah aside. "Don't do that again!" hissed Chris. "Do you know who he is?" he asked angrily.

"Carlos?" she asked fidgeting in place. She knew they were angry she left the school but they can't expect her to not socialize with her classmates, she thought to herself.

"Yes.  And his brother," added Kace. He knew who Carlos and his brother were. Roach had sent them a list of potential threats that could be present at the school. Jealousy aside, Adriano had a reputation as a ruthless mafia man.

"We were just talking Kace-" she said defensively.

"That's the problem. You were told what not to do today Mayah! And you did specifically what you were told not to do!" yelled Kace angrily. "Don't pull that shit tomorrow. Go to fuckin' class and wait by the doors when your done" he yelled walking past her leaving her standing outside with Chris. It's going to be a long year he thought to himself.
