Mayah

After tossing and turning for a couple of hours trying to get back to sleep, Mayah slid out of bed. She could hear banging and raised voices and decided to go investigate. Cracking the door to her room, she tiptoed to the top of the stairs to listen to what all the fuss was about.

"Jesus Christ Kace!" she heard Stitch say. "You just cant stay out of fucking trouble, can you?"

"I didn't start it. The asshole cornered me at the gas station with his crew of boys."

Fighting the urge to see what Stitch was talking about she slid to the far corner of the stairs to try and catch a glimpse of what was going on.

"Let me guess, you owe them money," laughed Doc.

"Its not fuckin funny," he hissed at Doc. "They were looking for Mayah!" he replied throwing the manila envelope on table holding his side. "They said to give that to Roach," he pointed to the envelope.

Frozen in fear, Mayah listened to Kace's detailed story about his encounter with Jackson, Derik and two other guys. I can't stay here anymore, she thought to herself.

"I think she should know that she's in danger," she heard Kace say.

"I already do," answered Mayah coming down the stairs. "Oh my god Kace, what did they do to you?" she asked. "I'm so sorry" she said running past Roach to give Kace a hug.

"Im okay," he said with a smile hugging her back staring Roach in the face.

Roach took the envelope off the table and ripped it open. "Kace, have Doc check you out." he said going through the contents of the envelope.

"Okay," he responded. He knew with his arm still around Mayah, he wasn't in a position to say no.

"What's in it?" asked Maya approaching Roach at the table. Without waiting for a response, she grabbed a picture that Roach had pulled from the envelope. "That's her, isn't it?" she asked softly. "That's your daughter?"

"Yes, that's my baby girl" he said. "She disappeared a while back from a party she went to." Roach laid the picture down on the table.

"I know her," she whispered. "The night you found me, you were looking for her." she said. Not waiting for Roach to answer she asked, " he sent you that envelope because of me, didn't he?" Mayah already knew the answer.

Roach put a hand on Mayah's shoulder as she picked up the prepaid cell phone from the table. Mayah turned the phone on and started to scroll through the contacts when a video message appeared on the screen. She took a sigh and pressed play before handing the phone to Roach. They watched Marco's video recording demanding the trade of Mayah for Krista.

Mayah let out a sigh, "when are we making the trade?" she asked sadly.

"We're not," chimed in Kace approaching Mayah and Roach in anger.

Ignoring Kace's interruption, Mayah turned to face Roach. "When are we making the trade?" she repeated. "We have to do it," she added quietly.

"We can't," interrupted Kace again.

"Kace, it's not up to you!" Mayah yelled. "Roach, say something...please" she said worriedly. Roach hadn't said a word since watching the video.

"Kace is right Mayah, I can't trade you for Krista," he said sadly.

"She's your daughter! You have to!" she said back to him.

"Yes, she is my daughter!" he responded running his hands through his hair. "But so are you." he said looking at her.

"I don't understand," she said looking around the room at the growing group of men.

"It means kid, that you are part of the family," added Doc. "When Roach brought you home, he placed you under the protection of the Devil's Angels...that made you a daughter of the Devil's Angels."

"That made you family," said Kace stepping forward.

"That makes you family," said Roach corrected Kace with tears in his eyes. "We will bring Krista home a different way." he said clearing his throat.

"But Marco is-" Mayah started before Roach interrupted her.

"The answer is no, Mayah. Everyone here sees you as a part of this family...families look protect one another." he said cupping her cheeks.

"Then who's protecting Krista?" she whispered.

"Kace, walk Mayah to her room." Roach instructed. He could see that he wasn't going to convince Mayah that the trade was not an option.

Mayah slowly followed Kace up the stairs to her room.

"Thank you," she said to Kace as waited for her in the doorway. "I'm sorry they did this to you," she whispered.

"It's not your fault," Kace said to her kissing her on the cheek. "Get some rest. Goodnight" he whispered closing her bedroom door.

Mayah listened as Kace's footsteps faded. If they aren't going to do the trade, I will do it myself she thought to herself walking to her closet. Mayah was determined to do something to repay the Roach's hospitality. Pulling out a duffel bag, she threw in some clothes and toiletries before going to her bookbag and pulling out a notebook to write a goodbye note.

'Thank you all so much for saving me and taking me in. I will miss each and every one of you. I'm sorry to leave you guys like this without saying goodbye but you wouldn't have let me leave if you knew what I was going to do. I owe the Devils Angels my life and I have a chance to do something right for once. Please don't be mad at me but I can't stay here and do nothing. I love you guys. Please forgive me. Love, The Devil's Daughter <3 Mayah <3

Mayah set the letter down on the bed. Taking one final look around the room, she grabbed her bag and headed for the window. I hope they can forgive me, she thought to herself climbing out of the window. "Bye guys," she whispered walking down the street disappearing into the night.
