Chapter 21

8 months later

"Krista! Let's go, we're going to be late!"

Mayah was impatiently waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs with Adriano and Carlos. She and Krista finally convinced Roach to compromise with them about going out...especially with Adriano who was true to his word. Roach finally gave Adriano his blessing as long as he was respectful.

"I'm coming, I couldn't find my shoes!" she flew down the stairs and gave Carlos a peck on the cheek.

"Are you trying to get me shot?" whispered Carlos to her pulling away staring at Roach. They had started dating right after Mayah and Adriano.

"He won't shoot you," she giggled. "Will you daddy?" she teased.

"Krista...you're making me regret letting you go," he warned.

"I will make sure she behaves." Adriano cut in. He had no intentions of letting Krista ruin the date he had planned for Mayah...even if Roach was making him babysit at the same time.

Both girls hugged and kissed Roach on the cheek before heading out the door.

"So...where are we going?" Krista asked sliding in back next to Carlos.

"Krista, they said it's a surprise...just wait until we get there." Mayah was smiling looking over at Adriano.

"Princess, you're staring," he teased with a smile gripping her hand while he drove.

"I know. But I can't help it."

After a forty five minute drive they pulled up to their destination. Exiting their vehicle, Adriano and Carlos took their dates by the hands and walked them up to a building where Adriano's guards were already stationed.

"I recall Princess, you always wanted to go ice skating and go to a carnival so ...tonight we will do both!" as if on cue, colorful lights lit up the night sky. He stared at her admiring her beautiful smile from the surprise. He noticed a tear threatening to spill from her eyes. "Princess, are you okay? If you don't like it-"

"It's great...thank you." She hugged him tightly.

"Then what's wrong? Why are you crying?" he lifted her chin to look in her eyes.

"I'm happy. You do so much for me every day." She wiped her face. "Thank you."

"Anything for my princess," he murmured in her ear before kissing her forehead.

"Guys, let's go! Some of us have a curfew." yelled Krista dragging Carlos behind her towards the lights.

Adriano and Mayah followed them, fingers entwined. Grinning from ear to ear Mayah reflected on the events of her life leading up to this moment. She found a family, friends and love...but most importantly a future without Marco.

Marco

It's been almost eight months since Marco was shot during the raid. He sat at the metal table waiting for his lawyer to finish shifting through his papers. He was agitated at the fact that his lawyer hasn't gotten him released at least on bail after he was released from the hospital.

"Mr. Montoya, the judge unfortunately didn't accept the bribe. We did however track down your fiance." He flinched at Marco's facial expression.

"Then kill the judge! It's not that hard to figure out. Get me the hell out of here!" he slammed his hand on the table making his attorney jump. "The longer I'm in here, the more I have to make up for when I get out." He leaned into his lawyer with a smile and whispered, "what has my girl been up to?" Even though he bought off most of the guards at the jail, he knew that there were cameras and individual listening devices in the room.

"Well Mr. Montoya, she's very rarely out in public but she has been attending a private school and seems to spend a lot of time with the two individuals you threw out of the party." He slid Marco some surveillance photos that he had taken of Mayah over the past months.

He leaned back from his lawyer picking up the pictures. He started to look at the pictures with a smile until he came across one in particular of Mayah with Adriano close together smiling. "Carino...what are you doing?" he said out loud. "I'm going to kill him and make her watch." His fists were clenched as he stared his lawyer in the eyes. "Kill the judge if he doesn't budge. You better have me out in a week."

"Yes sir. Is there anything else you need to have done?" He secretly was hoping that he would say no but he knew he wasn't so lucky.

"Yes. Get intel on her school...classmates...everyone she interacts with. I will need to make sure she knows why she's being punished when we have our reunion," he said with a smile. He stood up as the guards approached him to take him back to his cell. See you soon carino, he smugly thought to himself on the way down the hall.
