Mayah
"Mayah, its Dr. Andrews...can you hear me?" Said Dr. Andrews shining his light in each eye. "Nod if you can hear me."
Mayah nodded squinting her eyes trying to focus on the blurry figure in front of her. Once her eyes adjusted she looked around the room before trying to sit up in a panic.
"Woah, take it easy," the doctor said, easing her back to the hospital bed. "Your at the hospital, do you remember what happened?" he asked.
Mayah averted her gaze not wanting to answer.
"You don't have to answer that" the doctor said quickly after seeing her hesitation. "There are some visitors here for you. If you feel overwhelmed, you just let me know...okay?"
Mayah nodded as the doctor walked over to open the door.
"Hey how are you feeling?" Kace asked walking up to the foot of the bed.
"You scared us," added Adriano. He gave Kace a worried glance when she didn't respond. "Hey, your safe. Marco cant hurt you anymore. Come on, you gotta talk to us...say something please" Kace pleaded.
Adriano, cupped Mayah's face. "Princess," Adriano looked at her running his finger down her cheek. "I know it's hard... I know you're scared but you have to speak." he said to her with pleading eyes.
Mayah let out a soft sigh. "Okay," she said softly trying to sit up again.
"Miss, you have to stay laying down sweetie." said a nurse as she walked in with a smile.
Laying back down, Mayah sighed again. "I know I shouldn't have left the way I did," she looked at both Adriano and Kace before taking another breath to continue.
"What the hell were you thinking jumping out the goddamn window like that? Do you have any idea how worried everyone was about you?!" scolded Kace.
"Yes...and I'm sorry. I just wanted to help." sobbed Mayah.
"That's enough Kace!" hissed Adriano stepping protectively between Kace and Mayah.
"Gentlemen, I can't have you in here upsetting my patient. If you continue to upset her, I will have to ask you both to leave," said the nurse.
"It's okay, Kace was just leaving," Adriano said glaring at him still standing infront of Mayah. "Weren't you Kace?"
"Yeah, whatever," he responded heading towards the door.
"He hates me," Mayah said sadly.
"No princess, he doesn't hate you. He was just scared for you. How do you feel?" he asked reaching out for her hand.
"A little sore," she responded with a weak smile. "Adriano, I want to apol-"
"Shhhh, lets not worry about any of that right now," he interrupted. "Roach, Krista and everyone will be happy that your awake." he stood up slowly, still holding her hand. "Do you need anything?"
Mayah shook her head, "no, I'm okay...thank you...wait, are you leaving?" she asked watching Adriano walk to the door.
"Of course not, Princess. The nurse said that I can stay overnight to keep an eye on you. I just need to make a call."
After Adriano left the room, Mayah shifted forward in the hospital bed to try and get a look at her wounds.
"Princess, you should be leaning back." Said Adriano walking in accompanied with a nurse and Dr. Andrews.
"Ms. Cortez, if you don't listen you will tear your stitches." Dr. Andrews said almost in a scowl. "Your test results came back surprisingly well. I can discharge you tomorrow afternoon as long as you follow your doctor's orders," smiled while he flipped through her medical chart. "I just have some paperwork for your legal guardian to sign and your good to go."
Seeing the smile fall from Mayah's face once the doctor mentioned her legal guardian, he cleared his throat. "He will be here tomorrow morning, he had to take her sister home. It's been a rough week." He gave Mayah a wink as he sat in the chair across from her hospital bed watching the doctor and nurse check her bandages. Princess...What are you doing to me? he thought quietly.
