"I've told you 4 times. , reluctantly mind you, that I won't tell anyone Zumi. And I'd never lie to you!"
It had been 2 weeks since Deku learned about Zumi's coping mechanisms. "But you promised me we would find a way to help you" his face twisted into a pout because they had yet to discuss helping her yet. Etzumi replied with a sigh. "We will, I just need some time first" she offered Izuku a weak smile.
This is how most of their days went now even through the summer months, he'd come to visit her in the dorms. Both Izuku and Etzumi sat on the latter's bed talking, about her, about her family, her sisters and Izuku would open up about his dad and how he left for work when he was young and hasn't been back In years. They both had their fair share of trauma and troubles but they did not compare them, they just simply shared them with each other so they could get stuff off their chests.
On her bad days where she can't get herself out of bed, where she struggles to want to wake up and face the day Deku has her back, he vouches for her in class telling Mr. Aizawa how she was Ill or consulting the doctor about her hospitalized sister before the summer started. Aizawa, though he was suspicious, he wouldn't question it knowing that she'll catch up or train harder to become equal to her classmates, if only he had questioned it...maybe the future could have been helped...
of course, she didn't want Deku to worry so much or spend all his free time looking after and talking with her, she felt bad, terribly bad like she was adding more issues, more gas to the fire. Deku didn't deserve to be plagued by her problems too, especially when he could be spending time with his mother, but he insisted on helping her, insisted that he didn't mind and that filled her with hope. hope that things can change and things will get betters. It gives her hope that she will have a future, a bright one that won't be plagued by nightmares of the past.
It was another 3 weeks before she had even considered counseling and Deku spent a lot of time trying to convince her to go and give it a go and if it doesn't work for her then at least she can have a formal diagnosis and even drugs that could help her, all pushing her towards a new her, a new life. Her official meeting came around the corner faster then anyone expected and before long she was stood outside trying the calm herself before she hit a panic attack, Izuku by her side holding her hand in comfort.
"It'll be okay Zumi, I'm right here, you can hold my hand the entire time" He offered her a warming smile that calmed her a little. she closed her eyes tight before taking a deep breath and entering the building, heading to the front desk and stuttering out why she was there with a shaky voice. The meeting was more successful then she expected, she got given an appointment card to start official counseling and the relived look on Etzumi's face made Izuku happy beyond belief that his friend will get better.
It was now reaching the middle of the summer holidays and even though on weekends the class could go see their families, Izuku still insisted on spending some time with Etzumi before leaving. She was now 3 sessions into the 10-week counseling and it had a clear impact on her life, she seemed a little more carefree - if only by a little bit. She still has her bad days, the days that knock her down and she can't get up but that is expected - shes determined to get better so when Asuka wakes up she can smile and be there for her sister without seeming distant or sad, she's not just doing this for herself but so she can care for her family the way she should be.
Etzumi somehow manages to juggle her counseling, catching up on work from the last term, seeing Asuka, seeing Hyriko, caring for Kiko and dealing with her mental health. Izuku thinks she's the strongest person alive to do all this but he always helps take a load off by watching Kiko when shes at her sessions or at the hospital and helping her with work.
Whenever Etzumi puts up some resistance to the idea that Izuku is spending all his time helping When she fetches up the point that the class will think something happening between them when she mentions that his mum must question where he is when is tells her he won't be going home all he does is just simply smile and he replies with a cheery voice wrapped in care "I'm going to take care of you okay" before giving her a hug and continuing to help her. That alone is enough for Etzumi to smile and remember she doesn't have to do this alone.
