Baaton Ki Teri Hum Bhulaa Na Sake,
Hoke Judaa Hum Na Judaa Hosake.
Dil Main Hai Zinda Har Ghadi Tu Kahin
Hoke Judaa Hum Na Judaa Hosake,

He gave his friend a slight smile to show he had been listening, but he hadn't. He was lost in his own thoughts. Of her. Of the two of them. Of the memories they shared together.

This had been his state for the last 3 months. Ever since she walked out of his life.
Ever since he had forced her out of his life. But what could he have done? How could he have stopped it all from happening?
A thousand thoughts had raced through his mind as she walked away from him that day.
He had wanted to stop her, his heart knew how much he had wanted to hold onto her & never let her go. But he knew he couldn't do that. To her. To his brother.

Kitni Chahat Hain Dil Mein Tu Jaane Naa
Kaise Dil Ko Samjhaye Dil Maane Na.

Baaton Ko Teri Hum Bhula Na Sake
Hoke Judaa Hum Na Judaa Ho Sake

Dil Mein Hai Zinda Har Ghadi Tu Kahin

Hoke Judaa Hum Na Judaa Ho Sake

He sighed, trying to keep his composure as he looked around the busy foyer. This was where it had all happened. Where he had said all those horrible things to her. Where he had saw her face fall as both their worlds came crashing down. He shook his head, trying to erase the thoughts from his mind at that moment. He had to maintain his facade. At least for now. At least whilst he was in public.
"What do you think Abeer?"
"Mm?" He said, tuning back into the conversation as his friend stood in front of him. "Sorry, I'm somewhere else right now. What did you say?" He smiled
"Tell us something new, Abeer!" a voice came from beside him & his head turned as he looked down to see his friend, Neha leaning her arm on his shoulder, a playful smile on her lips, making him smile softly.
"This again?" He asked
"What!?" She shrugged, taking her arm away as his friend chuckled. "I'm merely stating a fact. Just like the fact that you can't let go of these things" She said trying to reach the sunglasses on his eyes but he moved his head slightly so that she couldn't reach them. "What is this Abeer!? We're inside! At least take them off now!" She complained.
"You focus on your wedding functions & leave me & my glasses alone" He teased & she glared at him.
"Neha!" A voice called & Abeer looked up to see Kuhu making her way over, making him smile. "There you are! Here I am looking for you like mad & you're here talking to Bro!" She shook her head at Neha, who pulled a face.
"Sorry Kuhu! Tell me, what is it?"
"Come with me, I need to show you something"
"Bu-"
"Bro, we'll be right back, okay?" She asked & Abeer nodded, watching Neha being dragged away by Kuhu.

Meri Tammanaao Ka Ehsaas Tum
Main Kahin Bhi Rahun Mere Aas-Paas Tum
Khuda Jaane, Khuda Jaane, Khuda Jaane..

Ik Pal Bhi Tumse Door Jaa Na Sake
Hoke Judaa Hum Na Judaa Ho Sake
Baaton Ko Teri Hum Bhula Na Sake
Hoke Judaa Hum Na Judaa Ho Sake

Abeer excused himself from his friend to make his way to the side, sighing as that fateful day's events came screaming back, for the millionth time since that day. He had never thought that things would come to such a point where he would be forced to make such a decision.
But it was the right thing to do in the end. How long could he have let her suffer? How long could he have made her endure the hatred of his mother every single day?
He looked up & saw Kunal speaking to Ketki & Atul, just as Nidhi walked over to the three of them. How could he let his brother face a truth that he was in no way, shape or form ready to come to terms with? He couldn't break his brother's heart. He was hardly able to manage his own broken heart.
Abeer sighed deeply once more, beckoning a waiter over with a tray of drinks. All the glasses were filled only half way to the top. He took two glasses & just as the waiter was about to walk away, he stopped him. Pouring one glass into the other to fill it to the top & placed the empty glass back on the tray before dismissing him with a nod.
Abeer took one huge gulp.
"Abeer-" A voice said from beside him but he didn't turn to them. "Abeer, what are you doing?" She asked him quietly.
"What does it look like? I'm drinking my bitter medicine like you used to give me, maa" He taunted & she sighed.
"Abeer, look-"
"Maamu!" He called & everyone stopped what they were doing to turn & see him as Meenakshi's eyes widened, looking around whilst smiling sheepishly. Kuhu, Kunal & Neha all exchanged looks with one another, worriedly.
"Yes, Abeer beta?" he walked over towards them.
"Maa says she's tired. Why don't you go & take her to her room to rest" He said, looking down at his mother, an incredulous look on his face.
"That's a good idea" Kaushal said putting his arm around his sister. "It's been a long day Meenu Behn."
"& don't take no for an answer" Abeer joked, making Kaushal smile, nodding.
"Abeer-" Meenakshi tried to protest but Kaushal was already leading her away, towards the stairs as she kept glancing back at her son.
"What's everyone looking at?" He scoffed with a smile. "Kuhu! Neha, get everyone dancing! It's your party!"
"Bro's right" Kuhu said, half heartedly. "Turn the music back on, Atul!" She said & Atul nodded, the music resuming as everyone began to talk amongst themselves again.
Kunal spotted Abeer from across the room as he intook a sharp breath before excusing himself as he made his way over to his older brother.
"Bhai." He attempted to take the glass from Abeer but was unsuccessful. "Seriously. What are you doing to yourself?"
"Nothing, Nanko" He shrugged. "What am I doing?"
"You think you can put on a brave face & I'll believe that you're okay?" He asked then took his brother's arms. "Bhai, I'm your little brother! I know that you're not okay. & I want to help you! But I can't if you don't tell me what's going on!"
"Nanko" He sighed, taking his brother's shoulders, this time. "I'm fine, okay?"
"Then take these off so I can see how fine you are" He said, reaching for the glasses but Abeer stopped his hand, shaking his head pleadingly. Kunal sighed.
"One of these days I will find out what's going on & I will fix it all, I promise you Bhai" He said & Abeer sighed as he walked away.
"I really hope you don't find out Nanko" he said to himself. "I couldn't bear that pain in your eyes."

Abeer wiped his mouth with the back of his hand & summoned another waiter with a tray full of drinks, placing the empty glass on the tray, pausing for a moment before ultimately dismissing him.
He sighed before he began to leave for his room when someone stopped his way, catching him off guard. "Abeer!" Neha complained. "Now, where are you going?"
"Neha, please-" He began, pleading with her.
"But you can't just go! You said you'd stay beside me during the whole wedding"
"Nehaaa" a voice sang before the two of them saw Kuhu joining them, placing her hands on Neha's arms from behind her. "Let Bro go, he needs some time to be alone. Right, Bro?" She said, giving him a knowing look, to which he nodded.
"Right" He said & he was about to walk off when Kuhu stopped him.
"Why don't you go & tell Atul to change the song, I'm getting bored of this one!"
"Yes Boss!" She said excitedly before rushing off.
Abeer turned to Kuhu, who had her arms folded. "How long are you going to keep up this act, Bro?"
"Look, Kuhu-"
"I'm not asking for an explanation." She began, holding her hands up. "Because I know you won't give one" She said. "All I'm saying is you can't keep hiding behind those glasses forever." She told him & he sighed before turning to her.
"You'll find out how she is soon enough" She shrugged, reading his thoughts & Abeer raised an eyebrow at her. "She's coming back"
"What?" He asked, almost a whisper & Kuhu nodded.
"She called Daadu last night & told him that she has finished up everything in London & she's ready to come home"
"Wh-" He stopped himself from asking her. He had lost that right that day.
"I thought you didn't care, Bro?"
"I don't" he said, going to walk off when Kuhu stopped him.
"It's all well & good you pretending in front of me, in front of your whole family. But what are you going to do when she eventually comes in front of you?" She asked & he paused for a moment before walking off, causing Kuhu to sigh.

He made his way into his room & closed the door behind him, taking his glasses off as he ran his hand over his face, sighing deeply. He slowly made his way over to the desk by his window, putting his glasses down before opening up the drawer to look down at the photo that stared back at him. He ran his fingers over it before taking it out, staring at the beautiful portrait of the person staring right back at him. The first time he laid eyes on her.
He closed his eyes as he held the photograph close to his chest, tears forming as thorns in his eyes, prickling him underneath his lids.
