Mishti came out of her trance when she felt someone tap her shoulder. She turned & see him sat beside her, a smile instinctively coming to her face as he smiled right back at her, making her gasp as her emotions suddenly took over her. He was there. On the plane. Right beside her.

Zaalima...
Kyun hain dooriyan,
Hun tainu labbaan main kahaan..
Das tainu labbaan main kahaan...

"Wh-" She began but another voice spoke, snapping her right out of her thoughts, & she saw it wasn't Abeer that was sat beside her.
"Mishti?" Nannu said & she shook her head, as if by doing so, the anguish of finding someone else beside her would simply just disappear.
"Yes? Sorry. Did you say something?"
"I was just saying that if you're going to sleep, shall I get someone to get you another blanket?" He asked but she shook her head.
"No. Thank you. I'm fine" she lied to him with a smile on her face that matched the lie from her lips, before she turned to face the window, staring into the dark of the night as the plane continued it's journey towards home.

Sun mere humsafar
Kya tujhe itni si bhi khabar
Ki teri saansein chalti jidhar
Rahoongi bas vahin umr bhar
rahoongi bas vahin umr bhar, haaye

Home. Rajkot. The three months she had been away had honestly felt like three years. & whilst her body may have been in London, her soul had remained there. With him.How had things changed so drastically in her life? How had she felt like she was soaring through the clouds like the plane they were on, then the next moment she found someone had cut down her parachute to let her fall straight to the ground? She thought back to their moments together.

Muskurana bhi tujhi se seekha hai
Dil lagaane ka tu hi tareeka hai
Aitbaar bhi tujhi se hota hai
Aaun na hosh mein main kabhi
Baahon mein hai teri zindagi

She closed her eyes as she recalled the last time she saw him. Her hand went to her neck instinctively. Although the physical scar had faded within weeks, the emotional scar remained ingrained in her heart. After everything was said & done, she couldn't bring herself to hate him. She couldn't do it.

"Main tumhe bhi jaanti hoon.
Aur tumhaare dil ko bhi."

She was angry at him. Angrier than she had ever been. That instead of talking to her, he chosen this route to end things between them. After all the promises they made to one another. After everything that they had said & done. She blamed him. But deep down, she knew there was another person to really blame. His mother. Mishti was 100% certain that she must have said something to Abeer for him to act like that. But what? What could it have possibly been?

Because those words. Those actions. They weren't him. They may have come from his mouth but they didn't come from his heart.

He was the one who had taught her how to love. How it felt to be in love. How it felt to love someone with all your might that the rest of the world seemed minsicle in comparison. Then what could have possibly compelled him to act like that?

But she couldn't stay behind & question him. She had made a promise to her Bade Papa. & she couldn't go back on her word. No matter how much she wanted to fight for him. For them. She had to leave it behind for that moment.

Hai nahi tha pata
Ki tujhe maan lungi khuda
Ki teri galiyon mein is qadar
Aaungi ab har pehar

"Beta! Watch what you're doing" A voice sighed softly, snapping Mishti out of her thoughts to see a little girl bending down in the middle of the aisle to reach for a pair of glasses.
"Sorry, mama!" The girl put the glasses on properly & grinned up at her mother, who couldn't help but smile.

A smile came to Mishti's lips as she saw the encounter & glanced down at her purse that was on the floor, underneath the seat in front of her. She discreetly picked up the purse, glancing out of the corner of her eye to see Nannu was watching something on the screen in front of him. Engrossed in some movie.

O sun mere humsafar
kya tujhe itni si bhi khabar
ki teri saansein chalti jidhar
rahoongi bas vahin umr bhar
rahoongi bas vahin umr bhar, haaye

She placed the bag on her lap & reached into it, opening the glasses case to reveal the pair of glasses her had gifted her that day. A soft smile playing on her lips as she recalled the moment.

"Tum mere liye naya chashma lekar aaye?"
"Main tumhaare liye chashma leke aaya hoon. Tum Maa ke kangan waala reaction kyun dehrahe ho!?"

"Ma'am? Any drinks?" A voice said & Mishti quickly stuffed her bag back underneath the seat in front of her as Nannu had turned to her.
"Er, just a water please" She said & she nodded before taking out a plastic glass & a bottle of water.

"Why don't you just wear them?" Nannu asked her softly as the hostess handed Mishti her the cup of cold water. Mishti sighed, he had seen it. The hostess had pushed her trolley past them to serve the next passenger behind them.
"No, I'm not putting them on" She remained adamant.
"Because they remind you of him?" He asked & she sighed again."Please-"
"I'm just saying" He began, concerned for her. "You not wearing them is not going to stop you from remembering him if you're going to take them with you everywhere you go"
"I know" She sighed. "I just-" She paused to shake her head. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Fine" He sighed. "Get some rest. We're going to land in about an hour." He said & she nodded, attempting to get comfortable in her seat, turning to face the window again.

Mere zaalima...

She wondered what would happen if they were to meet again. If they were to come face to face after all these months. Would he still try to push her away? Or would he finally give up the act & hold her in his arms like he had done plenty of times before. Erasing all the bad memories of the last time they saw each other.
