Cade and Demon filed into his penthouse apartment.
Cade sighed, happily in love with Evie. She was laughing and chatting with another woman over a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon.
"I see." Demon said simply.
"Oh, yeah." Cade replied as Evie looked up at him with a tipsy grin. "I'm so whipped."
She leapt up from the couch and threw herself around his waist, nuzzling into his chest. "I'm so glad you're okay." She murmured, the scent of red wine filtering off her lips. "I made a friend."
He pet her curls, kissing the top of her head. "I know you did, baby."
Cade looked at the woman sitting on the floor, who flicked her brunette hair. "Welcome home, bastard." She muttered to Demon, throwing back her glass of wine and standing up.
Cade studied Demon's reaction.
"Something about her, right?" Cade asks the man, watching him fight a smile.
"Yup." Demon replied simply.
"Mi cariño, ask them to leave, I wanna fuck." Elena gives him a look.
Demon grins. "No way, darlin'."
She huffs and stalks away. Then comes back around and takes the bottle with her.
Cade gives Demon a look. "They get pissy when you do that, y'know."
Demon looks away from his bombshell. "Not until she's not using it as a weapon for information."
Cade considers this, then nods.
"Let's go home." Evie murmurs.
*
Evie woke up on Cade's stomach, stretched and yawned. He looked deep in thought, already awake.
His gaze didn't even flicker down to her naked body.
"What's wrong, baby?" She asks, running a hand through his hair. He closed his eyes, reveling in the feeling of her nails against his skin.
Cade shook his head, frowning. "Nothing."
"We never had Christmas." She murmurs. She felt cold without his hands on her hips, where they should be, where they usually were at times like this.
He shook his head. "Didn't have too much planned anyway."
Evie ran a hand down his cheek. "Then why do you look so sad?" She crawled up, sitting in his lap. "I'm naked, you should be all over me."
His eyes turned glassy. "I've been selfish with you."
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
"I'm holding onto you so hard, and you don't love me." He said.
She shook her head, leaning in to kiss him. "Don't worry about that."
Cade cupped the back of her head, holding her tight around the waist. She loved his strength, the feeling of tension in his muscles as they clutched her tightly.
The kisses turned fevered, Cade kissed and sucked at her neck. She needed closer. Cade apparently did too.
"Baby, I love you so much," he said breathlessly, "I gotta be in you."
She was too scared to say how much she needed him too.
With her on top, they made love in the early hours of the morning. Once more, he hid his face in her chest and clutched her hard to him. Evie's nails scored his back, his hands bruised her ass. Her face buried in his hair, she softly murmured "I love you, Caden." Too quiet for him to hear.
