Evie woke in a strange bed, and she sat up, groaning quietly. There was still light outside.
"Hey, babe." Cade came in from what she assumed was the bathroom. "I gave you a Benadryl and you seriously passed the fuck out."
Yes... Champagne and a Benadryl. Perfect sleeping cocktail for a very scary plane ride. The second it started moving she flipped and Cade had to calm her down. She spent the flight sleeping in Cade's lap. For some reason, driving in a car was only mildly scary, but now having overthought the mechanics of a plane crash, being in the air was the most horrifying thing she could think of. It didn't used to be.
Fucking car crash.
At least her pretty boyfriend didn't have that damn splint anymore.
"What time is it?" She mumbles.
"Little after three." He responds. "I put you to bed not thirty minutes ago, so you haven't missed much. Come on, get up and get dressed. Angela wants to meet you."
Cade was not expecting her to shoot out of the bed.
"Luggage?" She asks.
"Other room." He says in mild disbelief.
She walked out the French doors, not even bothering to admire the beauty of the hotel's interiors.
She unzipped her bag and dug through it, finding a pair of jean shorts and a flowy tank top. Uncaring, she stripped right in front of him and got dressed. She pulled out a pair of sandals, glowering at them momentarily before putting them on.
Don't ask - she hated flip flops or anything of the like. Something about seeing stranger's toes. However, it's not like she could run around on the beach in her Adidas.
Evie faces him, putting her hands on her hips. "Lead the way, boyfriend."
She watched as he hid a smile while scratching his nose.
It suddenly occurred to her. I can make him hide a smile, can I make him blush? Probably not. She was willing to try, nonetheless. The thought intrigued her.
They hadn't had much time to themselves for the last several days with Cade rushing around trying to get her a forged passport and packing. She'd realized that she left all of her good denim shorts back either in her dorm or in Georgia. Cade dreaded the thought of going back there, as there was usually still one of his father's men lurking around her dorm. So, another shopping trip was needed as well.
Cade stuck out a hand to her absently while he texted someone on his phone, like he had been doing since the morning she'd first called him her boyfriend.
He liked her hands.
Evie took that hand and Cade guided her out of the room to the hotel's bar.
She saw the resemblance immediately. Apparently they were cousins, but they had the exact same color of hair.
"Angela," he greeted, letting go of Evie's hand.
A delicately built woman with piercing blue eyes and jet black curly hair rose, encapsulating him in a hug. She must've been mid to late forties, as there were a few gray hairs mixed in with the black, but she was still gorgeous.
