Typically hated child story but with a sad twist: one day, the child dies due to his/her body being unable to handle the abuse any longer.
The tragic part: a family member or the entire family is trying to turn a new leaf or just realized their mistake.
The character can be dead or dying. The latter seems more tragic as the happy future that either the child or the family hoped for starts to die in their very eyes.
Extra points if the abuse aggravated an already existing illness.
