The kit was surrounded by darkness.
It was nice. Quiet-usually anyway.
Today, it was not quiet.
Ravenkit could feel her mother's heartbeat quicken, and she could feel the rumble of a growl that rose from her mother's throat.
Beside her, another unfamiliar cat growled and hissed back.
Ravenkit does not know what those sounds mean.
Yet.

"Come on Pinekit!" Fernkit squeaked,"Stop being such a worry wart."
"I am NOT being a worry wart!" Pinekit yelped, "I'm being SMART!!!."
Ravenkit smiled as her siblings bickered, she didn't know what they looked like, but as Mother said, she could learn what they looked like on her terms.
Which meant having her eyes closed for however long she felt like it.
Beside her, Crowkit stirred, his bushy fur brushing against her own. Ravenkit sighed, and tucked her head into her chest fur.
"See!" Pinekit wailed at Fernkit, "You woke up Ravenkit!"
"Oh bug off." Fernkit snorted, "She's asleep. Look, her eyes are closed."
"That is not being asleep!" Pinekit shot back, "That's having your EYES CLOSED."
Here they go. Ravenkit mumbled in her head, They start to be loud, riiiggghhhhhtttttt-
"Oh COME ON." Fernkit growled, "YOU are SUCH a PAIN."
"HEY!!!" Pinekit yelped, "That's MEAN."
"You're mean." Fernkit grumped, stomping back to Ravenkits side, and slumping down.
"Ravveeeeennnnkiiitttt" Fernkit whined, pressing her paws on Ravenkits face. "Can you pleaaaaaAAAsssee open your eyes? I swear if I have to live another day with Mr.Mouse dung over there I am going to DIE."
Ravenkit grunted, and flicked her ear.
Should I open my eyes today?
"You say that all of the time Fernkit." Pinekit grunted, Ravenkit could feel his tail draped along her back.
"But you NEVER die."
"Well one day I WILL And it will be because of YOU."
Pinekit snorted, "Oh really?"
Fernkit huffed, "Really."
Ravenkit could feel Pinekit fall into a crouch, "Okaaayyyy."
Suddenly, Pinekit lept into the air, squealing as he bowled over Fernkit.
"HEY!" Fernkit yelped pushing at Pinekit, "Get off!"
"No." Pinekit crowed, pressing Fernkit down, "You said that I should kill you!"
"That is NOT what I said!! " Fernkit yowled, wiggling. "Get your great big HONKING paws off of me RIGHT. NOW."
"No."
Fernkit shoved Pinekit with her front legs, yipping angrily. Ravenkit pricked her ears as she heard Pinekit yelp with pain, and stumble back, tripping over Ravenkits tiny body.
"OOF." Ravenkit grunted, the weight of the chubby Tom winding her. Ravenkit twitched her tail and narrowed her closed eyes in the direction of Fernkit. She couldn't hear Fernkit, but Ravenkit knew she was there.
Ravenkit slowly creaked her large eyes open, she wanted to see Fernkits face. And immediately wished she hadn't.
It was so bright!
"Ravenkit!" Fernkit yelped in surprise, "You've opened your eyes!" Two little brown legs trotted up towards her face. Ravenkit raised her head, and met her eyes with Fernkits own. They were a pretty colour.
"Ooohhhh." Fernkit cooed, pushing her face up to Ravenkits own. "You have blue eyes like me! I wonder if they'll stay..."
"Blue?" Ravenkit asked, tilting her head.
"Yeah! All kits have blue eyes, but they might change with time!" Fernkit widened her blue eyes.
"See? I have blue eyes. But mom says that it will change into amber!"
Ravenkit scrunched her nose, she had only just opened her eyes, but the amount of information she was receiving proved to be overwhelming.
"Amber?" Ravenkit squeaked, "Does that look like that?" She motioned towards the fuzzy stuff by what she assumed to be the entrance of the den.
"Oh no, that's green! What you see are called, leaves." Fernkit wrinkled her nose in distaste, "Medicine cats seem to really like them. But they taste funny."
Pinekit was grooming himself besides Ravenkit, but he raised his head.
"You know this how?"
"Oh shut up." Fernkit grunted playfully, pushing her brother.
"Wait." Ravenkit mewed, "I'm confused, Medicine cats? What are those?"
"Oh!" Fernkit meowed, "uh- why don't I just show you?"
"Show me wh-"
"Can you stand?"
Ravenkit tipped her head. "Stand?"
Fernkit narrowed her eyes. "You know." She took an exaggerated step forward, "Stand On your paws?"
Ravenpaw blinked, and pushed herself to stand. "Like this?"
"Yes!" Fernkit mewed excitedly, "Great, lets go!"
Ravenkit took an unsteady step forward, "Where?"
Fernkit grinned at her sister, "Outside!"
