Haley

Last night, when we went into the cinema to watch some comedy movie, Drew got a text. He told me it was his mother. I am not sure if that is true. He was very on edge the rest of the evening - his leg bouncing up and down throughout the movie. I tried distracting him by holding his hand, kissing his cheek, and leaning my head on his shoulder. Nothing seemed to work. I felt his tension and I cannot believe he is holding this much boiling anger toward his mother. There must be something else that is bothering him.

Today, Drew is taking me ice-skating. I invited Amy and Jenny too. He was not very happy about it.

I am about to pick up Amy from her house and then we will pick up Jenny and meet Drew at the ice skating rink.

"Hey, Amy, how are you?" I ask her when she climbs into my car.

"I'm still recovering from last night but I'm ready to race you in the ice rink." She is not a morning person. "We should head straight there. Jen called to tell me that Brody came to visit and he will be driving her there."

"Oh, really?" I'm surprised. Drew did not say anything about Brody. Maybe he did not know. But they are friends, aren't they?

"Yeah, he arrived last night with Jason."

Hmm. Maybe they wanted to surprise Drew? But they see each other every day in college. Could it be he forgot to tell me? I am probably over-thinking all this.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah," I lie, trying to push my thoughts aside.

When we arrive, Drew is already waiting for us.

"Hey." He meets me half way and kisses me softly on the lips. "Where's Jenny?"

Amy responds before I do. "She's coming with Brody and Jason."

His face turns to slight panic. "What?"

Did he fight with Jason or something?

"Is there something going on with you and the guys?" I ask, getting tired of his behavior.

He shrugs. "Nothing."

I do not believe him. Something is definitely going on judging by his defensive tone. I let it slide for the time being.

There are already a few people skating in the rink. We decide to get the skates and put them on. The others should be here any minute now.

"There they are!" Jason's voice comes from one side of the rink.

Drew bumps into me and we both fall down on the ice.

"Do you even know how to skate?" I half tease. The other half of me is being serious. Ice skating was his idea so I assumed he knows how to skate.

"Of course I do. I got distracted by that idiot." He helps me up and gestures toward Jason.

"How about a race now that you're here?" Amy suggests.

"Deal," Jason agrees.

"I'm in," Brody says.

"Me too," Jenny continues.

"Haley and Drew?" Amy asks, turning our way as we approach them.

"I'll pass," Drew replies.

"I'll do it," I say.

Drew gives me a look of disapproval. I do not care if he approves or not. I want to have fun with my friends. He needs to stop being such a stuck-up and let lose.

Jenny, Brody and Jason get their skates and join us in the rink. We agree on the start line and the finish line. Amy takes care of the countdown while Drew watches us from afar.

We spend the rest of our time laughing and having fun. We learn that Brody will never have a carreer skating on ice. He is terrible at it. On the other hand, Amy out-shines all of us. Drew remains grumpy.

"Why are you being like this?" I ask him in front of everyone when we exit the rink and take off our skates.

"Like what?" he asks innocently.

"Grumpy."

"I'm not being grumpy."

"You're being defensive now."

"Just tell her already," Jason jumps in. I was right. There is something going on between them.

"Shut up!" Drew shouts at him.

"What are you hiding?" I demand, crossing my arms in front of me.

"Nothing!"

"I'm not an idiot!" I shout back. "Tell me what's going on!"

Jason speaks again. "If you don't tell her, I will. She has a right to know. Besides, it wasn't your fault."

"Somebody tell me right now before I lose my shit." My anger is escalating.

Everyone falls silent for a minute and then Drew speaks. "We were at a party. I had a few drinks and some random girl drugged me. She took me to one of the bedroom and I cannot remember what happened."

I thought something like this only happened to girls.

"What?" It comes out as a whisper.

"I filed a report on Friday."

I find my voice again. "When did it happen?"

"Last Sunday."

"You weren't going to tell me, were you?"

He opens his mouth to reply but stops himself.

"I need to go." I do not give him time to stop me. He calls my name a few times but I rush to my car and take off. I am hundred percent sure he will not follow me home because he still has not spoken to his mother.
