Haley
"Pregnant?" Drew asks in disbelief.
Oh no. This is it. He is going to break up with me or make me abort the baby.
I nod confirming that he heard me correctly.
He stands up and paces around the room for a minute. I understand that this is a shock to him as much as it was to me.
He stops and sits on the bed to face me again. "What are you going to do about school?"
He's worried about school?
"I don't know yet," I admit.
"Is it okay if you take a year off? I will help you with the baby whenever I can."
Really? He wants the baby? He wants to help out? This is even more shocking than the moment I found out about the pregnancy.
"You really want to be a part of this?" I ask.
He takes my hands in his. "Of course. We created that life together." He nods toward my stomach. "I want to raise this baby with you. I'm not my father."
I nod in agreement. "Thank you."
"So, what do you say finishing high school and take a break from studying for a year? Then you can apply for college next year or the year after," he suggests. "I will graduate in two years. I will find a job and take care of the baby while you start college."
"I think I like that idea."
He is right. College is not going anywhere.
"Does my mother know?"
I nod. "She was with me when I got the news."
I shake my head. "I cannot believe she found out before me." He pauses. "Do you know if we can . . . you know . . . continue what we started?"
"I think so. I read that it would be tricky after the fourth month of the pregnancy."
"How far along are you?" he asks.
"Six weeks."
"Does that mean we will meet our baby in . . ." He makes the calculations in his mind. ". . . seven months and a half?"
I nod. "Exactly. If everything goes well."
"Why wouldn't things go well?" he asks with concern in his eyes.
I shrug. "I don't know."
He pulls me to him and kisses my forehead. "Everything will be fine."
"I hope so."
His lips meet mine once again and we continue what we started a few minute ago. He takes a gentle manner as he makes love to me. Gentler than usual . . . as if he is terrified of hurting the baby.
"You can go faster and deeper," I assure him.
He halts his movements and examines my face for any sign of . . . uncertainty maybe? When he does not find any, he resumes his movements and does exactly what I suggested.
