Dear Elaine,
Today, I need to tell you something terrible that happened. You know that it should be a normal day at my aunt's house, but it wasn't. To tell the truth, it was a scary day; and you will understand why later on.
My parents and I went to visit my aunt in Campo Grande — It was my cousin's birthday. We arrived fast because the road was without traffic jam. When we arrived, I helped with the preparation of the party, but while we were doing the party chores, my aunt realized that she needed more ingredients for the candies. So we went to the supermarket to buy them.
Then, the nightmare begins! In the car there was me, my aunt and my cousin; we had already left the condominium and were almost leaving the neighborhood when we saw something strange in the corner.
"What is going on there?" asked my aunt, confused.
When we got closer, there we could see everything, two men arguing (later my aunt said they were neighbors, she knew them by sight). I was already nervous. In fact, all three of us were nervous, but the situation would get worse — that was when one of the men came into his house and took an axe. Then he started running after the other with the axe.
"Oh my God! He will kill him!" we in the car screamed. "Run, you idiot! Run! Get out of there!"
And the man still wanted to face the other with his hands free. Certainly seeing these things from up close is totally different than watching videos. It was one of the times I was most tense. But thank goodness the police arrived on time, and the situation was controlled (to our relief and to the relief of others on the street). The man was arrested, and we went our way. It turned out fine.
Finally, we got back to my aunt's house and we finished the decoration of the party; and then — with all the tranquility of the world — we enjoyed the party. It was really fun.
Bruno.
