__________________"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine..."
Arthur quietly sung while holding (Y/N)'s Hand tight. He ever so often looked at her, to make it clear, that he sung it to and about her. She listened to him in awe and enjoyed his presence. Never stop singing, little songbird.
They walked down a path, (Y/N) had never seen before. It was a narrow path, endless fields of pine trees guided them throughout the whole walk. Their crowns frosted, and added to the majestic and strong wood. (Y/N) loved the idea that Arthur was singing about sunshine when the temperature had double digits in negative. Thick but white clouds shaded the city and blocked the sun to shine on them. Good, that she had her sun right next to her.
Even though they were wearing gloves, they could feel each other's heat on another. Flowing through each other's veins, their bodies aligned and felt the connection. Every organ wanting more. Suddenly, they both felt it. Even though, no one said anything. No one went first. They both felt the same reflex manipulate their senses, and there was no denying that they both didn't mind.
So they both took each other's head in their hands and connected their lips together. They smiled, laughing at the sudden desire that overcame them, that smile only deepening the kiss. Their mouths melted into each other. It was like putting a puzzle together. Every piece fits together like it was meant to be.
They were meant to be.
And they knew.
Everyone knew.
As the kiss eventually broke apart, Arthur took time to look at her face. Her beautiful face. She looked at him. And at that right moment. That exact moment. The sun broke through the wall of clouds that shielded her. Rays of sunlight slowly infected the city with light and warmth. One of them going right onto (Y/N)'s face. She squinted her eyes, but quickly fought against it so she could continue looking in the face of her love.
Sunrise.
She resembled sunrise.
Just like the day they first saw each other.
The sun rised up on them.
"Arthur, my love.", the girl said as she gently stroked his cheek.
"(Y/N), my love.", he answered.
He took her hands and kissed them, while going into his own mind.
Now?
He looked into her soft face. She was smiling. Happy.
So he smiled. Happy
Now.
"(Y/N), do know why I brought you here?"
She thought about it. She really did. But really couldn't think of anything. His gaze was too distracting.
His gaze.
Just like the day they saw each other.
Piercing yet soft. Hot yet cold. Filled with everything, yet nothing.
She didn't know, so she shook her head.
Arthur took her face in between his palms and looked at her. He was crying.
"Arthur..."
"Shhh...", he carefully shushed her and continued with a shaky voice.
"(Y/N). My dearest (Y/N). My angel. You are the reason, that I am alive. That might sound like a drag, but it's true. I'm a monster. I kill people. The Joker took half of my soul and existence. You are the reason that the other half doesn't give up on life. I had nothing. Nothing to live of die for. No one to believe in. And then you came around. God sent one of his angels down to earth. And you saved me. You walked up to me, held me, took care of me. 'How's the weather Arthur?', you asked me. And I answered you every time. Today is no different", he spoke while tears rolled down his cheeks.
Now (Y/N) had to cry as well, touched by his words. Her tears looked like crystals in the beaming sunlight. Arthur carefully wiped them away and continued:
"Say it. Ask me. Please.", he whined with a smile on his face.
(Y/N) was now full on sobbing as she held his wrists. There was something about the way he talked today, that made her so emotional. She could listen to him forever. Since she never grew tired of his voice. Never grew tired of his company. Never grew tired of him.
"Ha - How's the - the - weather today, Arthur?"
His content laugh sounded like music in her ears. A deep baritone sound stroked her ears and made her smile. Yet again, Arthur wiped away her tears as he answered.
"My love. The sun is rising. Just like the day we fisrt saw each other. We are the beginning. Of something big, something greater than life. This is us. This was meant to be...And I never want to change that."
He went down to his knee.
(Y/N)'s mind went blank for a second. Was this really happening? And when she saw him looking up to her from below, she realised. Arthur Fleck was proposing to her. And as the realisation hit her, her emotions exploded out like a dam with troubled water behind him.
He was proposing. He really was.
"Arthur...Oh, Arthur..."
"My angel...", he started, which only made (Y/N) cry even more.
This was real. This is really happening.
"I know, a guy like me isn't really what you deserve, and I certianly do not deserve you. But will you do me the honour and make me the happiest man alive?"
He slowly pulled out a small box out of his jacket. As he opened it, (Y/N) saw a glistening ring. Made out of rich sliver, a small diamond sat on top of it. It was beautiful.
"(Y/N) (Y/L/N), will you marry me?"
(Y/N) shivered while hearing him say that. And without hesitation, she said
"Yes, oh god, Arthur, yes!"
So she jumped into his open arms as they shared a moment of love. They were together now. They were before, but they were one now.
So they connected their lips to be one once more. As they parted, (Y/N) looks at her now...fiancé. Just the thought of it gave her the chills. And she loved it.
"I love you, Arthur Fleck."
"And I love you, (Y/N) Fleck."
Yes. That sounds right. (Y/N) Fleck. It's like she never had any other name.
He carefully put the ring on her finger. It fit perfectly, like it was meant to be. The diamond glistened in the sunlight, throwing light on her puffed up face.
"God, I am getting married. I am enageged!", she screamed in excitement, while still crying a little.
Arthur laughed and and kissed her cheek.
"Okay, Mrs. Fleck. You ready to fight against me in a snowball fight?"
"You bet, fiancé."
And they ran off into the woods while the sun threw light and shade through the trees. Arthur being the shade and (Y/N) the light. Always together. There was no light without shade. No Arthur without (Y/N).
