Chapter 30

I was typing away on my laptop, trying to get through the homework that Stiles brought be over yesterday when someone knocked at my door. I sighed, thinking it was my mother once again, I told whoever was at my door to come in. When I looked up to see who had come to visit, I was shocked to see Matt.

"Matt?" I asked, "What bring you here?"

"When I heard that you were in the hospital," he began, "I wanted to make sure you were alright."

"You're sweet, Matt," I smiled over to him, "It's good to see a new face around here. Come in and chat a bit."

"Oh... um," he began to fiddle with his camera bag, "I actually only came by real quick... I was planning to do something."

"Oh... alright," I stated, shocked to be shut down, "Well, thanks for stopping by either way."

"I'll come back, I just had plans before I finally got the guts to actually come by," he stated, clearly shy and nervous about it.

I tilted my head at him and asked, "Why? I mean we used to have playdates. I don't know why you would be nervous to actually talk to me."

"Well, since you started hanging out with Lydia," he scratched the back of his neck, "You seemed unreachable."

"I'm still the same Juliette," I laughed, "You can even ask Scott and Stiles."

"Right," he turned a bit serious, his frown falling from his lips, "anyway, I'll talk to you soon."

"Thanks for coming by, Matt," I smiled at him, "Don't be a stranger!"

Matt quickly left my room, leaving me alone once more in the ever enclosing room. My smile slipped from my lips as I just looked at the door as it slowly closed behind Matt. The room was so quiet now and it put me on edge. Moving my attention back to my laptop, I decided to go through my pictures I have on it.

My smile returned as I laughed at the silly pictures Stiles and I took over the years along with Scott. Going through vacation pictures I took with my mom over the school breaks. But I stopped when I got to pictures with Lydia. As I browsed through my file labeled under her name, I recalled the scene I saw her last. On the Lacrosse field on death's door. That image made me sob at the thought of almost losing her. I would do anything to know where she was.

"Come on, Lyds..." I whispered to myself, "Where the hell could you go?"

At that moment, I felt a shiver go through me. I looked around my room to see if it was the window, but only to find it closed tightly. I reached for the A/C unit remote to find it at a reasonable temperature of 70 in my room. As much as I tried to look for a source, I kept getting colder. I was shivering now as I trembled under my covers.

It was getting dark out and it only meant it was getting colder. Lydia was out there somewhere trying to tell me something. All I can take from this feeling was that Lydia was outside in the cold, naked. My teeth began to chatter as I reached for my phone and quickly dialed Stiles' phone number. He answered right away after the first ring.

"Juliette?" Stiles asked, "What's wrong? Did you figure out something?"

"Stiles..." I chattered, my teeth clearly clicking as I spoke, "Lydia's c-cold... I-I can't stop sh-shaking... It's 75 degrees in m-my room now and I st-still can't get w-warm..."

"I think she got into an ambulance," Stiles explained, "We heard a police radio it in, I'm waiting for something to happen."

"She's not the-the one behi-hind these atta-attacks, S-Stiles!" I tried to talk but my breath was slowly starting to turn into steam as I spoke.
