Chapter 37
I'm not sure how long they have been at the pool. Really, I had been so focused on getting myself out of this paralysis. It has been a fruitless endeavor, but I was not going to just give up when I began to notice Stiles was starting to struggle with keeping Derek afloat. If I do not get up to help any time soon, I fear they would both drown.
"Get me out of here before I drown," Derek hissed at Stiles.
I rolled my eyes, "Derek, it is not the time for your tough act..."
"Yeah," Stiles groaned as he adjusted, "You're worried about drowning? Did you notice the thing out there with multiple rows of teeth?"
"If it was going to do anything," Derek replied, "It would have killed Erica and Juliette, but they are fine."
"Yeah, fine," I scoffed, "Erica's knocked out and I am paralyzed from the neck down. I'm peachy keen."
"If I can't complain, you can't either," Derek commended.
That got me to laugh, "Not complaining, just stating facts."
"Well at least you are safe from drowning, I'm paralyzed in 8 feet of water," Derek threw back.
I rolled my eyes.
My eyes looked around from the angle I was given. I had lost sight of the creature in a while. Closing my eyes, I demanded my head to move. Tightening my eyes, I focused on the thought of moving, when I felt it. My chin brushed against the tile floor to allow me to get a better view of the pool. That's when I noticed the creature inching closer to the pool.
"I'm getting tired," Stiles commented.
Worry overtook me as I called out, "Stiles, babe, don't give up, okay. I think I am getting through the paralysis. Hold off a bit longer."
"Wait," Derek hissed, "Wait, stop!"
I froze along with the sound of the stilling of water. My eyes moved from the boys and back to the reptilian creature. It was reaching toward the water when it recoiled upon touching the surface. My eyes widened.
"Wait, did you guys see that?" I exclaimed.
"Yeah," Derek replied, "I don't think it can swim."
Taking that momentary distraction the creature was having with the water, I pushed through my paralysis. With an inward grunt, I moved my arms and began to prepare myself to push my chest off the floor. My sudden movement caused the creature to look over to me. It tilted his head in curiosity, but I didn't stop me from getting to my feet.
I stood on shaky legs and my breath was shallow from the sheer energy I was using to get myself up. Noticing me on my feet, it hissed over to me, but that was encouragement enough to get my feet moving toward the pool. Without a care, I dove into the water. I felt the shift of air before splashing in. I had just slipped past its claws, which saved me from being paralyzed once more.
I gasped for air as I broke through the surface. My hands pushed my hair away from my face I tried to clear my vision. Once I was good, I began to move toward the boys. I was still a bit weak, but I am sure I was strong enough to shoulder some of Derek's weight off of Stiles. Taking Derek's right arm, I made sure to keep kicking my feet.
"How come you got the toxin out of your system so fast?" Derek looked over to me.
I shrugged, "Beats me, I just focused on trying to get to Stiles. I was not going to let him drown trying to save you. Keeping you safe is a plus as well, but I'm in here for Stiles."
