I ran my hand through my long, wavy (h/c) hair in exasperation as I stared at the bills that were piling up on the table.
I dropped my backpack on the floor and sat myself down in a chair at the kitchen table. I took a look at each bill in my hand until I got to the last one and in large red print our rent bill said overdue.
I placed my elbow on the table and hung my forehead on the palm of my hand.
All of this was stressful.
I was simply a nineteen year old college student who was trying to achieve passing grades, work a part-time job, and make ends meet. But that was posing to be difficult.
Adulting...great isn't it.
My father had started to pick up even more shifts recently, but it still wasn't enough. He may not have the best job, but it was something. He would often come home and chug a pack of beer to relieve him of the stress.
As for my mother, she left us last year when I was eighteen. She was the one financially supporting us due to my father's menial jobs, but she couldn't handle the thought of being with someone who she was going to constantly fight with over money. Money was tight with household expenses and my tuition even though I tried to help with it, but in the end she decided that she had enough and left.
Even though she left us, I'm still her daughter and I thought she would help me during times like this, but she hasn't bothered to.
Does she not love me or something? This whole time, had I been a burden to her as well?
I stared at the bill and crushed it in my hand before throwing it on the table. If she doesn't want to come to me then I was going to come to her. I wanted to speak with her.
Storming out the front door, I ended up running to my mother's workplace. The Uchiha Corporation. I stormed through the glass doors and past the young receptionist who hastily called out to me.
"Miss! Where are you going?! Stop right there or I will call security!" Her heels were hurriedly clicking against the smokey, seamless flooring as she tried to catch up to me.
I bustled through the workers who either cleared the way for me or who I had to push past causing them to drop whatever was in their hands. I ran into the elevator and rapidly pushed the number twelve. I looked between the button and the two males who were running towards the closing elevator doors.
"Fuck, hurry up," I muttered under my breath as I continuously pushed the button. As the elevator doors closed shut, I sighed in relief and anxiously stared at the rising numbers above the door.
People would occasionally come in from different floors and I would nervously tap my foot, wanting the elevator to speed up and for people to stop coming in. The doors opened and I ran out as I had finally reached the twelfth floor.
I ran down the hall and saw men and women dressed professionally who were working in their assigned cubicles or walking with papers in hand.
My eyes scanned the enormous room and I caught a glimpse of a woman with (h/c) hair held up in a bun.
Coming down the hall, I heard men gruffly speaking with employees. They caught sight of me and yelled, "There she is!"
I immediately ran towards my mother. Everyone who I ran past looked at me in bewilderment.
"Mom!"
I placed my hand on her shoulder and she casually looked over her shoulder to see me.
