In honor of Frozen 2 coming out I want to start this series with Frozen. Please note I haven't seen the new movie so please don't spoil.

Frozen came out in 2013. I actually like this movie but I do have issues with it. I am one of those people who thinks its over hyped. That's not a bad thing. But at the same time I wouldn't say it's a good thing either.

First time I saw this I loved it. It surprised me how different Disney changed the stereotypical princess genre. I love the moral of the story. Telling girls that all not guys are gonna be prince charming is great and saying family matters. Which is true. I think the jokes were funny and didn't fall flat. I loved how Elsa had to learn to let her feelings out more and Anna learning to guard her heart. Let It Go is catchy. Olaf was a funny character and he was entertaining to watch. It blew my mind that he was the comic relief but also kind and quiet. It was a great balance for Disney. Kristoff was funny and his storyline makes sense in the film.

But the issues I have with this film starts with Hans. I didn't like his storyline at all. It felt completely out there. Early on we're supposed to think he was good. The first time I saw the film, early on I knew he wasn't Anna's "true love." I assumed that they'd kiss but it wouldn't work because Anna realized Hans wasn't meant to be her future husband but realizes it was Kristoff all along. They'd break up and Hans would have helped Anna get to Kristoff. But I was actually shocked when he turned out to be a villain. Maybe because I was 11 and stupid lol. But we don't get a hint that he's the bad guy. Yes, I understand that people can hide who they truly are until you really get to know them. I would be on board with it if we had a hint. Maybe he'd smirk and talk to himself like a crazy person or something. I don't know. But it felt like the writers needed more drama and decided last second that Hans was gonna be bad.

Like I said, Let It Go is catchy. But it feels overplayed. Sometimes I can bop to it when I hear it. But others I felt like my ears are bleeding. But it's a good song.

I'm not saying this movie is bad. It's good. I'm just saying it's overhyped. It's a children's movie so we can't really give it a hard time. Frozen started something big. We should enjoy it for how it is.

My rating: 7/10
