Back in 2015 Backstreet Boys released a 20th anniversary film that was actually filmed around 2013-2014. As far as I know Netflix doesn't have it. But Tubi is free and has it. This is NOT a sponsored review to promote Tubi lol. But it's free. But since not many people know this movie. Spoiler Alert.
Backstreet Boys are celebrating 20 years and going on their first tour together since Kevin left. He's back in the band and there's a new tour and album both named, In A World Like This. There is also a single in the album with the title, In A World Like This. I was surprised they didn't name the movie that. Lol. But I understand why they named it that. Show 'Em What You're Made Of is also a song in the album. This film also explores their backstories and how they came to be.
I enjoyed this film for what it was. I did cry in some parts because some stories were really sad and emotional. Heck, I cried the most during Brian talking about his vocal tension condition. I felt bad for him. He was the one I could relate to the most. He has to push himself to get better. There was a scene between Brian and Nick arguing over it. I was really mad at Nick. He was being unreasonable. On a certain level I can understand where Brian is coming from. I have cp and I have been pushed by my peers at school or some family members to keep up with everyone and it doesn't help but makes things worse. Luckily I have parents and two younger siblings who stand by me and never put me down for it. Nick was being harsh and it actually took me awhile to get over it.
Kevin, Nick and AJ's stories were sad and I couldn't help but cry. Howie's was about bunnies and I thought it was random tbh but I felt sorry for the guy.
I wouldn't say this movie is a "masterpiece." It has it's flaws but I still enjoy watching it every now and then. We shouldn't be too hard on them. I can't imagine being in the same group for 20 years and going through what they've been through. My hat goes off to them.
When I was 11 I discovered who they were. I was in a bad place at the time and their music helped me get through what I was going through. I look up to them and consider myself a diehard fan.
Brian still has that condition and I don't encourage bullying him. He is a fighter and he has proven how strong he truly is. They all have.
If you're curious or just bored I recommend this for a watch.
My rating: 6/10
