I panted as I quickly whipped around, nailing a target in the chest before throwing a knife above me, I turn around again and shoot a target, it goes down and I hear the rickety rail of a target coming up to me fast, but then hear the finish buzz, followed by a loud thunk. I look back to see the knife in the head of the target directly behind me and look up at Louise who had an amazed look, yet a firm mouth, obviously trying not to seem surprised, but it was easy to tell that she was.
I walk out of the room, holstering my gun and wiping my face with a towel that was draped over a hook outside the door, Louise soon joining me. "That was amazing! No wonder you've worked with us before. You took the advanced training, huh?" She asks and I nod sheepishly.
"I get really ambitious about this stuff, so I just want to know everything..." I say, but she squints her eyes narrowly and questioningly and I sighed, sitting on a couch. "Alright...It's really because of myself...and others. I want to protect, I mean myself, but others matter more, and it's easy to see that on the battlefield. Hell, even off the battlefield, you never know what'll happen, but with our work, everywhere is a field of never-ending battle." I say and Louise nods knowingly.
Ross pops his head in and looks from me to Louise, I shrug and look away, but something catches my eye, a cub, no older than 6 or 7 years old keeps beside him, looking at me carefully, and rather suspiciously. I look up at Louise, who nods to Ross before turning to me. Ross and the cub both depart, walking down the busy halls of USSIDA.
"Alright. We have a possible place where Baskin might be, and it's honestly no surprise. An express train going through New York to Chicago has people that may be tied to Baskin, so we're stationing you onboard, by yourself, just to get some information. Your ride is waiting outside, your gear is in your room, be at Pennsylvania Station on the hour." She says and I nod, standing, starting to walk towards my room, Louise speaks up again.
"Oh and...try not to hurt him, if you find him, or any of them...Peyton...Channing...if you can bring them back, as good as alive will do, please they're...friends." Louise says, sniffling, she rubs her eyes quickly before speaking. "Please...go."
I look at her eyes and nod again with a ready face, walking to my room, I walk in and find a familiar grouping of items and grin, looking at the familiar metal mask on my bed, I sigh and pick it up, admiring it again, I chuckle and set it down, picking up the black vest, I strap it to my chest, then open my closet to find a large black suit, and a trench coat, the kind that wraps around your body and that has a collar that reaches up to cover the lower half of your face. I missed this.
I pull on my boots, then attack small pads to my shins, the sides of my thighs, my forearms, and my chest and back, as well as one styled to fit on my neck, resting just under my vest, I then grab my coat and swing it on, clipping it closed, I lift up the metal mask and place it on my face, it clips over my ears and sits under my hair, folding around my neck for a holding place, I speak softly.
"Suit I.D. 36458917, Program run V.E.X" I say and the inside of the mask lights up, 2 lines leading from the bottom of the mask in symmetrical pattern slowly creep up the mask in orange light, stretching out to the top of the mask, and a female voice speaks in my ear.
"Welcome back Mr. Penn. It sure has been a while." And I nod.
"It has Vex. Now, I assume they've uploaded all mission details into your core, so let's get going. Prep bike number 78, will you?" I ask and a beep sounds, the woman speaking again.
"Of course Sir. Bike 78 is being readied in garage 9, please proceed."
I walk out of my room, closing the door, I walk towards the garage, people looking up at me, some smiling, knowing very well who I am, others just keep walking, more focused on no distractions then curiosity. Most that I worked with knew me as Seeker, one of the top locators for anyone on the planet. All it took were a few good connections, money, and a stable path, and I could find anyone, but I was out of it, so I knew it would be different this time. Much different.---------------
The train screeched to a halt and I get off the bright red sports bike, walking towards the train, my mask off, I hand a ticket to a short tiger, a female with a smooth and gliding tail, she gives me a quick look before shrugging, scanning my ticket, I boarded the train and walk around, sitting down in a seat near my target, I look down the aisle, noticing him.
He was a tall panther, with blue dyed hair, sharply dressed in khakis and a button-up, gray shirt that made him almost look like a businessman, hell maybe even a painter, but nope. He was a D.J. for a local club going to sign his first deal. Word around says he helped Baskin a bit with his illegal I.D. store. Changing I.D.'s day and night, all with some extra time for a little side-job. I'd call him smart, but he's already been caught at this point.
The train jolts and starts off - down the tracks, soon picking up speed. The horn blows three times and I stand up, looking around, I glance outside and notice a tunnel coming up and I smile, placing my mask on, I hear a commotion up ahead and peek my head around again to find three other furs having intercepted him, and they didn't look like fans.
The train is enveloped in darkness and I jump out of my seat, shooting forward, I nail into the first fur, a tall bear, sending him forward through a door, the other two furs, a beaver, and a deer, they both backed off, the bear joining them quickly, I turn to the panther and he whimpers, but I take off my mask and gesture to the compartment at the end of the carriage. "There, now."
Quickly, he stumbles to the compartment, and I sit across from him and slide the room door closed. The latch clicking the lock in place, I look at him intently before speaking, my face more serious than anything.
"Tell me what you know about Baskin Desiro.""I can't!" he shouts.
"Tell me!"
His eyes start to water, "I physically can't! I've tried it! I've tried screaming it! It won't come out!"
"I guess we do this the hard way then..."
