I slowly drive down the tarmac, finding the long, black and sleek airplane sitting in place, lights on the inside of it, but the lights outside of it were off, and the cockpit was empty. I drive up slowly, and notice movement in the windows, I stop the bike and swing my leg over, noticing the plane door open, I see Peyton, he waves me up before retreating into the plane, I tap the side of my mask, the hud disappears, leaving only the screen showing the outside, I walk up slowly, stepping in, I look around and soon catch a look of the crowd in front of me.
In the closest table, roughly a foot or two away, sat a fox and a deer, both wearing skin-tight black suits, and at the next table, across the aisle, sat Peyton. I look up to spot the last table, in the far back corner, sat the tiger. Channing. He looked up at me, with merely his eyes visible in the shadowed corner, I look at the group before the deer turns to Peyton.
"So this is the other person looking for Baskin?" He asks and Peyton nods, which then causes everyone almost simultaneously to give me a quick look over, before the fox girl stands and walks over, looking closer at me, she points at the mask.
"So, you're gonna take that off or..." She starts, and I interrupt her.
"No, I don't plan on taking off the mask. To start with, I barely know any of you, and for another thing, I don't trust any of you, so if you expect me to do anything in your favor or at your discretion, that's very ill adhered." I respond, and she closes her mouth before grumbling and going to sit back down.
"Then why did you even come?" The fox asks and I sigh, before growling, and debating my actions. I could comply with them, take off the mask, follow their lead, but in my honest opinion, it would probably end up a dead lead. Or, I could give them what I have, and leave, get back to USSIDA and just continue with my work. I sighed again and lift my hand up to my face and pull off the mask, it folds around my hand and I looked up with a serious face, and I notice the fox's face drop.
"Peyton you're kidding, right? He...We can't have him working on this with us! He's...he'll be trouble, you heard what this guy did." She hisses, and I slam my hand against the frame of the cutout doorway I stood in.
"I left that behind me months ago. Right now we have proof Baskin's in Washington, and he'll most likely be apprehended soon enough, but we need more info on him. Do you guys have anything...at all?" I ask and the tiger in the back speaks up.
"We don't have anything for USSIDA anymore. You guys hunt people like him as if he were a dog. We don't need your help, Seeker. Not after what you did in September after we left. Yea, we heard about that. Good thing we were out before it happened."
I growl again and sneer, placing the mask on my face, I tap the side, bringing up the HUD again. "Fine. But I was never doing this for you guys...I just want to live a normal life too." I say, whisking my coat back, I start down the stairs of the plane, walking to my motorcycle, I straddle it and pull up my arm, tapping the screen, I hesitate to press the button that would call in my position, looking up, I see the deer standing in front of me, with a look of pure worry on his face.
"If you're working at headquarters, that means Ross and Louise are there, right?" He asks and I nod slowly, he sighs with a shudder and looks back up at me. "Please, tell me Ross and Levi are okay. I just need to know." He says quickly, and my face drops as I think of Ross and the child that continuously followed him. This deer was risking everything. But that didn't change my orders.
I swipe my screen and it moves to contacts, I slide my finger before coming upon Ross's caller I.D. and tap it, his face shows up on my mask.
"Agent Ross here. What do you need Michael?" He asks and I tap my gauntlet, causing a camera to jut out from it, I point it up to the deer and Ross's face is a mix of emotions. Confusion. Excitement. Anger and disappointment.
"This is for taking me to my house...I...he wanted to talk. He can hear you." I say, and Ross shoots into a mixture of angered talk about up and leaving him with a kid, and also excitement and relief knowing he's alive, I look up to find the group crowded behind at the base of the plane, looking close as the deer breaks down, crying as they talk.
Soon, Ross said good-bye, having to tend to other things, I close the camera and the deer looks at me happily.
"My names Rowan, I'm sure you knew that though. Please, keep him safe from this job. This work isn't for him, or for Levi." He says and I nod.
"If you care about him, then you'll meet me in Washington tomorrow. Help me bring in Baskin, and this will all blow over." I say, before revving the motorcycle, I give Peyton a wave before starting down the tarmac, the tires squeal as I make a hard 180, shooting past the group and onto the street towards USSIDA.
I broke the code, but what I got from it, couldn't have been better.
