(Three months later- end of summer)
"Angel? Angel?" Cory called out as he walked around his private room as he set the last bit of stuff down while his dad glanced up at him. "Cory, who's Angel?" Alan asked as they walked into the living area and helped Amy with the food and extra dishes. "Angel? That's Angela, dad. We saw this old movie and the main female character sang this song and when I heard it, it reminded me of her. And if I take off the 'a' at the end of her name, it's 'Angel'. A perfect fit." Cory smiled. "Really?" Alan wondered. "Yeah, Just listen to the words, dad," Cory said as he plugged in his iPod.
Amy waddled up to Alan as she took him in her arms as they began to dance. Cory stood there watching his parents, still deep in love as they danced to his song for Angela. He was deep into watching them when he felt a small, delicate hand touch the middle of his back. He took a deep inhale of With Love perfume floating around his head as his smile went wider. This entire summer has been the best he's had in a long time. All the time that he and his parents and his sister spent with Angela was the greatest time he could ever dream of.
He didn't think to dream that Morgan and Angela would be close, especially since Morgan was so close to Topanga back when she was little. Now Morgan was in high school and it seemed that Angela's style and positive ways about her were what Cory's little sister needed.
But the fact that Angela bonded so deep with his mom wasn't lost on him. He understood that need to need and have a mom. He tried to fake jealousy when his mom, Angela, and Morgan would do mother/daughter outings. But all he could do is be happy at the chance she got to have that influence in her life.
Cory had received a surprise visit from Angela's father; Sgt. Moore when he came to visit her. He had never seen his daughter this happy since she was younger. And the fact that Cory and his family helped her feel that way, made Sgt. Moore realizes she was in great hands. Cory's parents and Angela's dad made sure to keep in contact and he always had an open invitation to the Matthews' home.
Cory came back from his thoughts and memories to feel her hand on his back. He reached from behind to grab her hand and bring her in front of him as they watched his parents dance. "Mom, you can't be dancing with dad. You're so pregnant, you'll pop." Morgan joked as she stepped in and stood next to Cory and Angela. He laughed as he glanced at his little sister who was almost as tall as Angela. Though Angela was a bit shorter than him. "Okay, young lady. You have cheer tryouts tomorrow and then school shopping. Let's go."Amy said as she waddled over to Cory and Angela to give and get hugs. They hugged her then Alan and Morgan before they left.
"Well, I am so glad I got all of my early admissions done as well as move in. In about a week school starts." Cory said as he wrapped his arms around her. "Didn't I tell you that early admissions save a lot of headaches." Angela reminded him. "Yes, Angel, you did." He smiled. "You know I was calling you earlier and my dad asked about my nickname for you." Cory smiled as he swayed with her.
"Really? When you explained it, what did he say?" She asked him as they swayed in the same spot. "He listened to the song and liked it. By then mom came in and they began to dance to it." "So, that was for just this summer? Now we just go back to Cory and Angela. Buddies, friends, pals. Our summer friend-romance is over." Angela said to him as she unwrapped her arms from his waist as she pulled away.
Cory just pulled her back to him as she tilted her head up to look at him. "Nothing from this summer has changed. At least not for me." He said to her as his face fell. "But if you want me to, I'll leave you alone. I won't like but I will respect it." He told her as his face searched hers. "No, Cory." She said as she shook her head and gave him a smile. "I just thought that you may feel better now to the point that you were ready to move on to a better part of life or something."
