"Topanga!" Eric and Shawn said together. "Topanga Lawrence?" Mr. Feeny and Alan said. "Hi, everyone." She quietly said as she walked up to Cory and smiled at him. "Hi, Cory." "Topanga." He breathed. Joshua crying broke the silence as Amy took her baby back inside. Cory watched his mom walk back in before turning back as Topanga and Angela both say his name. "Cory?" They both softly call to him. "Cory," Shawn said as he was still steaming with anger.
Alan and Mr.Feeny noticed the predicament that Cory was in and silently decided to take over. "Um, Jack, you, Rachel, and Eric take Shawn and Angela to my house." Mr. Feeny told him. "And Cory, you and Topanga come with me," Alan said. As everyone went their separate ways, Cory and Angela glanced over at one another. Angela noticed the bruises and anger on his face that matched Shawn's. While Cory saw his fear come true. The look of fear and flight in Angela's eyes. The same look he saw the night he ran after her. The night that crossed over and changed it all for them. For the better.
Half an hour later, Shawn stood across the room from Angela as they both began to yell at the same time. "Calm down. Can we start this over and talk like civil adults and young adults?" Mr. Feeny said as Eric laid his head back while Rachel paced behind Angela. Jack sat on the edge of the couch as he watched his brother dig himself deeper in the hole he was already in. "I can't believe you, Angela. My best friend!" Shawn said, demanding an answer. "I guess not." Mr. Feeny said as he gave up and sat down himself.
"I didn't cheat on you! You dumped me! You pushed me away! You walked out on me and left me as my mother did!" Angela yelled as Shawn stood straight along with everyone else and paid attention to her. "What? She did?" Shawn said softly as he walked up to her and touched her shoulder. Angela snatched her shoulder away from his touch as she turned away. "I didn't know. If I had known-." Shawn cut himself off. Angela turned around as she faced them all.
"You would have what, Shawn? Stayed?" She asked him with a mock tone. "I didn't need you to stay for that. I didn't need you to stay out of pity or obligation. I needed you to stay because I loved you. I wanted you to stay with me because you loved me." She began to sob hard. "I wanted you to keep me because I was all you ever needed. Because I was all you would ever need. But I wasn't enough, Shawn. And you can try to beat up Cory all you want. But it won't change the fact that if it wasn't Cory it might have been someone else if I had let them in." She began to hiccup through the tears.
"I needed someone and he was there. I wanted someone and he was there. I needed to be desired and HE WAS THERE! Cory was where you should have been. I know and understand that you have issues and things to deal with. But all of us do. You pushed not only me and Cory away, but you pushed everyone else away! " Angela continued. "Well, let me ask you this. Did you find what you needed? Was it all worth it?" Shawn stood there as they all waited on his answer.
When he remained silent, Angela stepped away only to step back up to him. "Well, let me ask you this?" She fumed with hurt in her heart as she stood so close to him, she could smell his Aspen cologne. She used to love that smell, but now the scent makes her want to be sick. "Why now to come and claim me? Why didn't you come during the beginning of the school year? Hell, at the beginning of summer?"
Shawn looked down before looking back at her. "I was lonely and the day the anniversary of the day that Cory and I found that purse with your stuff in it is coming up." Angela just shrugged her shoulders at the information as she put her hands on her hips. "And what does that have to do with anything?" "It was the day I fell in love with you." He admitted. Angela walked up to him and slapped him hard as she continued to cry.
Shawn shed some tears of his own as they glared at each other. "I hate you. I hate you for wasting time. For giving up on us and loosing all those chances to make sure we were still together. I hate you for pushing me away." She said as she began to hit him in the arms and chest. "I hate you for breaking my heart! I hate you for leaving me! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOUUUU!" She screamed as she started to collapse. He half way caught her as Rachel held her from behind. "Don't touch me Shawn! Just leave me alone. I don't want to be back with you." She said as she walked to the front door.
"What about Cory?" Shawn asked her causing her and everyone in the room to look at him. "Are you going to be with him?" Angela stood there , gripping the door as she sniffed back the remaining tears and wiped her eyes with her free hand. "No." "What?" Eric finally spoke as Rachel and Jack gasped. "Angela, don't you think you need to talk to Mr. Matthews first?" Mr. Feeny asked her. "No, sir. I feel I need to go away. I have one more exam this week and then I will go visit my dad in Italy for Winter break. I don't want to come between best friends ,now that Shawn is back."
She sighed and fought the tears in the wells of her eyes. " And then there is Topanga. I'm sure the three of them will pick up where they left off. After all, Cory only has known me since Junior year of high school. He's known you and Topanga since the sandbox. I can't compete with that." She whispered as she looked off.
Angela opened the door before glancing back at them. "Have an early Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone. I will see you Spring Semester." She sadly stated. They watched her walk out the door before it closed behind her. "Oh, crap." Eric sighed." What will I tell Cory?"
(At the same time)
Topanga stared at her hands on the table while her mind goes over everything that Cory said. He opened the scars on his heart and showed her his still fresh wounds. He told her she was sadly mistaken to think that she could move on and he was supposed to wait for her. He told her the entire story of how he met Angela and Shawn leaving. She listened to his words and tone and knew that all the past tense speaking he used, meant that they were truly over.
"I guess I should have called," Topanga said as he glanced up at Cory, Morgan, and his parents. " Yeah. You should have." Alan stated. "Topanga, do you have a place to stay?" Amy asked as she rocked the baby. "Yes, Ma'am. I just wanted to see Cory and know I have. I got the answers I needed. You finally moved on and I can't intrude. I'm getting tired and need to get some sleep. Maybe, I'll see you before I go." She smiled. "Yes, that'll be nice," Amy said as Alan nodded. Morgan nodded also as Cory remained still looking off. "Bye, everyone. Bye, Cory." She said as she walked out.
Cory stood there steaming as his mom gave him a kiss on the cheek before walking upstairs with the baby. Morgan gave him a pat on the arm before following. Alan, patted Cory on the back as he places an arm around his shoulder. "Do you want to talk some more son. " "Not now, dad. Maybe next week when I'm home for the holidays." Alan gave a quick nod and walked off. "Dad?" Cory called to him. Alan stopped at the bottom step and turned to face his middle son. "Thanks," Cory said with a bittersweet smile. Alan gave a wider smile and a slower nod before heading to his bedroom.
