I woke up cause of my phone buzzing, and let the bright light shine into my eyes.
Millie: Hi
Finn: Hi Mills!
Millie: Everything ok?
Finn: yep!
Millie: are you sure?
Finn: Yeah..why?
Millie: because you have been really distant lately and I feel like something is wrong
Finn: No, I swear. Everything is fine.
Millie: If you say so..
Finn: (:I put away my phone and stared at the ceiling. I hated lying to my best friend. It felt so wrong, so that's why I quickly grabbed my phone again.
Finn: Meet me at In-N-Out Burger in an hour. I'll explain everything.
Millie: Ok.
________________________________I turned on the shower and let the water run down my body. What was I going to tell Millie? That my father is a jerk who called my mother a bitch, and that my mother wanted to get a divorce because she thought my dad wasn't good enough? I teared up, and quickly wiped away my tears. Apart from that, there was another problem. Was I going to tell her about Jack and I? I hadn't talked to Jack for a few days, because he was on a trip with his family. I didn't think too much of it, though, because he would be spending a lot of time with them. I turned off the shower and walked to my room in my towel, with my wet hair dripping on the floor. After I got dressed, I walked down stairs and entered the living room. 'Hello, dear.' My mother said, as I entered the room. She was reading a magazine, and my father was nowhere to be seen. 'Hi, mom...where is dad?' I felt slightly uncomfortable asking her this question, because my mothers' mood always changes when we talk about my father. She put down her magazine and gave me an irritated look. 'Your father went to get a drink.' I grabbed my phone and looked at the time. 'It's 11 O' clock, it's way too early to be drinking..and you let him?!' I said, angry at both my mother and my father. 'Of course I let him, darling. I'm not the boss of him.' My mother answered, before grabbing a package of cigarettes and walking outside. I shot my mother a disgusted look. Ever since my parents decided to get a divorce, my mother started smoking. I can't stand the fact that she's killing her lungs. I quickly grabbed some money, and walked outside. Of course, I went through the front door. If I went through the back door, I would have to inhale my mothers' stupid smoke. I pulled up the zip of my jacket and avoided the rain puddles. It was freezing, and I put my hands in my pockets. In-N-Out Burger was only a ten minute walk from my house, so I put in my earbuds and started walking.
________________________________When I entered the restaurant, Millie had already claimed a table. I waved at her, before sitting down at the chair on the opposite side of the table. 'Hi Finn!' Millie said. She was full of enthusiasm and her energy was high. 'Hey Mills.' I said, as I grabbed the menu card. 'What do you wanna order?' I looked at the menu and decided I wanted a coke and a cheeseburger. 'I'll have a hamburger and a milkshake.' Millie said, before even looking at the menu. After the waiter brought us our foods and drinks, Millie finally broke the ice. 'So, what's up Finn? You look devastated and tired.' She said, putting her hand on mine with a worried expression in her eyes. I sighed. What was I going to say? I practiced all the words in my head, but when the time came I had no idea what to do. 'Uh..I..nice weather, isn't it?' I replied. I felt so stupid! It was freezing cold outside and all I did was avoiding the main point of why we were here. 'Finn! You're not answering the question. What is wrong? You know you can tell me everything, right?' She said, looking even more worried, mixed with a hurt look too. 'My parents...the..they're getting a divorce.' I said, holding back my tears. I saw Millie's face turning white. 'I...omg...I'm so sorry, Finn.' She said, with a look on her face that was screaming 'I'm sorry for forcing you to talk about it.' 'I..it's okay Mi..' My voice broke. That was the moment when I couldn't hold it in anymore, and I burst out in tears. Millie quickly stood up from her chair and put her arm around me, while putting a small kiss on my head. 'It's okay, it's okay. Everything will be fine.' She said, with a soothing voice. I dried my tears, and gave Millie a sign that she could sit down again. 'Would you like to hang out tonight? Like the old days?' I asked, after swallowing my last piece of my burger. 'I..I'm sorry Finn..but I..I can't. I have a date with Sades tonight...I'm sorry.' She said. I could see she felt sorry for me. 'Oh, no, it's okay, Mills, really! You spend time with your girlfriend, that's way more important.' I said, shooting my best friend an understanding look. 'Thanks, Finn. Anyways..how are things going with you and Jack?' She asked, sitting up straight. I swallowed. This was the topic I wanted to avoid. 'Uh..we may or may not have a date planned.' I said, blushing. I had expected Millie yelling all over the restaurant how happy she was, and say things like 'Finn and Jack, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, but that didn't happen. All she did was sit there, with a wide grin on her face. 'I'm happy for you, Finnie.'
