To say peter's had it rough would be an understatement. He lost so many people, and he always blamed himself no matter whether it truly was or not. Due to his loses, when he lost again he gained a bad habit. Whenever he lost someone or something, he would recite the names of the people close to him who he blamed himself for losing.

Then one day, Tony and the avengers finally asked peter what it was about and he was very closed off about it. He wouldn't explain no matter who asked or when, he would just say it was nothing or none of their business. But then one day he was fed up with being asked the same thing over and over again so he told them.

"Come on, you always mutter the same thing after every battle. Just tell us what you're saying! It's not even a big deal." Clint said. "I hate to, but i agree with him peter." Natasha said. All the avengers were gathered around the dinner table and yet again they started asking him the same old question. God peter was fed up.

Peter stood up suddenly and looked at them "Richard, Mary, Harry, Mary-Jane, Gwen, Ben." Then he looked away. "And what the hell does that even mean? Names?" Clint said. The other avengers all started to mutter and whisper to each other to try figure out the names. Peter had never told them of all the people he's lost so they had no idea.

"Shut up! You wanna know what the names mean so bad? huh? Richard and Mary are the names of my parents, Harry and Mary-Jane were my childhood friends, Gwen was my first girlfriend and Ben was the name of my uncle. Its a list Clint. A list of the people i've lost. A list of all the people i couldn't save. A list of all the people dead in my life!" Peter breathed rapidly.

The avengers shut up like peter had told them, but also partially because they had never seen the kid have an outburst like that before. Peter just stood there breathing in deeply. "I've lost so freaking much already in my life. So i recite their names so i never forget that i couldn't save them. So that i can push myself harder and be better." Peter said.

"My uncle told me while he was dying 'With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility' and i've held myself to that mark every single day every single moment since. Yet no matter what i do, i can't save the people i care about. Tell me, how is it fair that i'm 16 and i've already lost almost everyone i love? Its not. All i have left is Aunt May, and i'm constantly putting her in danger."

"So there, that's my deal. So you know what, i need some time cause i can't with any of you right now." With that peter was done and he left. "Did any of you guys know?" Steve asked. "It doesn't matter, we should've." Tony said leaving the dinner table and going to his lab. Tony stayed in his lab all night meanwhile peter stayed out on patrol for as long as he could push it.

When peter got back he didn't want to deal with the avengers, so he went right to bed. Hopefully the next morning he'd be in a better mood than he was. Peter went to the common room and walked past everybody as the all looked away awkwardly from him, probably because his outburst yesterday. Peter just went and got a coffee.

"Only one pete." Stark said. Peter just hmfdd and sipped his coffee. Then it was pretty normal, peter went to school, came home. Nothing special happened which was an honest win for peter. "kid, how was school?" Tony asked, everyone else was confused. "It was pretty good actually, nothing special happened today. But I had a test in algebra, i think i aced it." Peter said.

"That's good kid." Then tony went back to whatever he was reading before peter walked in. About an hour later peter walked back in the room, "hey Mr.Stark can you help me with this question? I should know it but i'm just blanking for some stupid reason." peter asked. "Yeah sure kid, come show me what question." Then tony helped peter for about and hour before dinner.

"Dinner!" Steve called. Tony and Peter walked in together talking about quantum something or other. They all just sat down and started to eat still talking, ignoring the looks from the other avengers. "ok, what is this? Why're you two so close all of a sudden?" Clint asked. Peter just shrugged, "I should've known what he'd gone through" Stark said.

"But i didn't, so now. I'm not gonna miss another second of his life. So, i'm gonna be close with him. I'm gonna say good morning and goodnight everyday. I'm gonna tell him only one cup of coffee. I'm gonna help him with his homework. And i'm gonna love every second with him. I made a mistake not being there for him, but now i'm changing that." Stark told them.

"Thanks Mr.Stark." peter said. "Come on kid, that makes me sound old, its tony." Stark said. "ok old man." "old man? i'm not old at all!" Peter just grinned, he got up and put his finished plate in the sink and walked around the corner. The poked his head back out. "ok, Dad." And in that moment Tony smiled from ear to ear happier than ever before.

For weeks after Peter and Tony were as close as father and son. The avengers were kinda jealous at one point, but then they made the effort and became peters family too. Peter truly had it rough. But that's what got him to this point. That's what led him to his new, his real, Family. And trust me, the narrator of this story, Peter would never take it for granted.
