a/n: MARCHING BAND TERMS:
dot= place on the field where you stand
movement= one section of the show/one piece of music. there are normally multiple movements, my marching band had three this year
high brass= trumpets and mellophones.
colorguard (guard)= the people who have flags and guns and swords and they spinny spin to make the show more visually appealing than a bunch of people walking around in a football field.
section leader: pretty much the person in a section who is the best at the instrument and is respectful to others and can lead their section. peter is a second section leader- that's like a section leader in training. you're the section leader for the guard is like a guard captain in training.
band camp= two weeks (it varies depending on the school, but mine is two weeks long) in the summer where marching band members practice technique, introduce newbies to marching and start field drill.
drill= where you stand during the show. When one would say "learning drill" that means learning your dots on the field.
box= the announcer's box at the top of the bleachers where the judges sit and watch your show
drum major= the person/people who dont play instruments but help keep the tempo from the front sideline.
also, let's pretend yall are juniors in high school 👍🏻
also also, i think peter would be a trumpet so he's a trumpet
You love your high school marching band. You're in colorguard, and the girls are very nice, and even voted you section leader. You are friends with almost every band person in the whole marching band, naturally being nice and welcoming.
Notice the 'almost'.
You cannot stand Peter Parker. Peter Parker cannot stand you.
Ever since freshman year when you accidentally hit Peter with your flag, you two have been at each other's necks trying to get on each others nerves and annoy the crap out of each other. You both cleaned up your acts around the director, Mr. Sanderson so that you wouldn't get kicked out of the marching band for bad behavior. Sucking up to Mr. Sanderson also got you to be the guard section leader, and Peter high brass second section leader.
During summer when band camp rolled around, Mr. Sanderson revealed the theme for this year's show; Romeo and Juliet. Everyone cheers, but you and Peter groan, knowing that the high brass second section leader and the guard section leader have a duo in the final movement every year. Not to mention the romantic theme of the show doesn't help.
"Ugh, why can't they make it Macbeth so I could kill Peter?" You complain to your guard friend, B/F.
"Romeo and Juliet is a beautiful story." B/F contradicts.
"Yeah, and the music pieces are so beautiful." B/F/2 (best friend 2), who plays the tenor saxophone, sighs. You roll your eyes.
-<>-<>- time skip brought to you by my marching band crush, inspiring me to stay in the band room during lunch since 2019.
