I smirked to myself, pleased that I could arouse such a response in Apollo. He spun around in his chair, wiping his mouth clean."Bridget," he didn't look angry, but he definitely didn't look like he was going to grab me and have his way with me, either.
I shook my head. "Look, I get it. I don't know how old you are, how 'traditional' you may be after all these years... just know, I'm not some delicate princess in a tower waiting for the perfect moment to be rescued." I decided that was my cue to leave, so I turned and headed for the door. I didn't hear any protests, so I left.
As I walked down the hallway, I spotted Hermes leaving a different room past the staircase.
"Hermes?" I called out. He glanced over at the sound of his name, and smiled when he saw me.
"Hello, Bridget. What can I do for you?" he asked, tucking a small journal under his arm.
"I'm not really sure where my room is." I admitted.
"Didn't Apollo show you?" he questioned, his brow furrowed.
"No, uh..." I panicked internally, but decided to play it cool. "He said he had some paperwork to attend to, so I excused myself. But now I'm not really sure where anything is around here."
If he knew I was lying, he didn't show it. "I'd be happy to show you around. Let's start downstairs."
I followed him down the stairs, and surveyed him from my inconspicuous position. He was probably just under six feet tall, a little shorter than Apollo. But where Apollo was more a man of words, Hermes seemed to be a man of action. He barely spoke as he led me from room to room, only telling me where we were.
"This is the parlor." he motioned to a set of double doors near the entrance. "That's the kitchen." he walked us into back hallways, past dozens of doors. "These are all guest rooms."
Two studies, a billiard room, an entertainment room, tons of bedrooms- the list dragged on and on. Finally we were upstairs and he came to a very interesting door. Most of the doors in the mansion had gold handles and not much else. But this door had a stained glass panel and an intricately carved floral design. Even the handle was different- it looked like it was made of crystal.
"This is your room." Hermes said, opening the door. I followed him inside, and my heart paused at the sight.
The room was gigantic, with an entire wall of ornate metal greenhouse windows. There were plants and flowers everywhere, from succulents to huge blue and pink hydrangea bushes. The sun rested perfectly on each pot, and they looked healthy. On the other side of the room was a darker area with a large canopy bed, draped with sheer white curtains. There was also an easel, a piano, and a beautiful roll-top desk with books and papers everywhere.
