5 years later and Jackson has finally returned home, back in New York, nothing was different. His room stayed the same, the smell the warmth of it all. He was happy to be home for good now. College was an adventure, he lived a wild and destructive life in college, although his grades stayed outstanding with all the drunken nights and wild parties he never lost track of why he got into UCLA. Now that he was home he had no idea what to do. Being home would be great for Jackson if he still had Sabrina to call and hang out with, but they were no longer friends.
"Welcome home brother." Carter stood at the entrance of his bedroom door. Carter was different now his high school dyed blonde hair was now gone and it was black, he had grew some facial hair, he looked older, way more mature than how Jackson remembered him from high school. Jackson smiled pulling Carter into a tight hug, "Wow you finally grew out that beard you always wanted, and here I thought you'd always have the same baby face forever." Carter laughed touching his beard, "You like?" He said showing it off more.
"Oh I love." Jackson says smacking Carter's face lightly.
The two sat on Jackson bed catching up, reminiscing on old times, talking of all the parties they went to in high school and even now, the crazy things that went down in college.
"Have you spoken to Sabrina?" Carter asked looking out the window to Sabrina's house that was right across the street. It hurt Jackson to hear that name after so long, after so long of suppressing her name, the thought of her out of his head with the many girls that he led on and used to get over her.
"I haven't spoken to her in 5 years ever since that night at the party," Jackson said, Carter could hear the hurt in his voice, the regret of not texting her throughout those years.
"She's back now too, you know she came each break to see if you had come home, she's missed you." Carter says. Jackson didn't say anything although it was obvious that he still missed her, that he was still in love with her, but that was inevitable, you never get over the first person you fell in love with.
"You think she'll come to see me?" Jackson asked sitting up from his bed looking over at Carter who was now again staring out the window.
Carter smiled as he watched Sabrina cross the street towards Jackson's house, "Oh I think she's already on her way." Carter says as the doorbell rings. Jackson looks at Carter before getting up and quickly heading towards the door. For a moment Jackson hesitated to open the door but he did, and when he did he was stuck in his shoes as Sabrina stood there,, her serious face turning into the widest smile that Jackson had missed so much.
Jackson didn't move nor did he say anything before Sabrina wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him into a tight hug. Jackson didn't hold her back and as he tried to she pulled away. "I hate you so much, how could you leave and never come back, how could you leave without telling me goodbye after everything you said? It's been 5 fucking years Jackson and not once did you text or call me," Sabrina says pushing her way inside the house.
"Neither did you."
"I didn't because when you left me at the party alone, I thought you never wanted to see me again, when I tried to come and see you before you left, you were gone if I would have known that I wouldn't see you again for five years I would have chased you down to that stupid airport and told you-" Sabrina stopped herself
"Told me what? That you don't feel the same way, did you want closure or something?"
"No you fucking idiot I wanted to tell you I love you too! I wanted to tell you I've been in love with you longer than you could ever know."
Jackson stared at Sabrina shocked for her to reincorporate those feelings, but he also felt like a dick to leave her without hearing what she had to say. Jackson pulled her into a hug, holding her tight as she cried in his arms.
"Sabrina I still love you, I'm still in love with you." Jackson says whispering it into her ear, she pulled away wiping her tears as she took a step back, "It's too late Jack, I've moved on now, I'm with someone and we're getting married..." Jackson backs away taking all of what she said, mostly just that she's getting married.
Just graduated from college and she's getting married, No matter how Jackson thought about what she said he couldn't wrap his head around what she said.
"You just got out of college Sabrina, how, what?" He said running his fingers through his hair.
"We met in Sophomore year, he helped me..."
"Move on from me," Jackson said finishing what Sabrina couldn't say.
"Jackson I want you to be at the wedding, I want us to go back to being best friends, I've not only missed you because I loved you but I missed my best friend. The guy that beat up the first boy to ever cheat on me, the boy that led me out of the sadness I was in whenever I'd overthink something or go through something." Sabrina tried to step forward and Jackson stepped back.
"You've only known him for what 3 years and you marry him cause he helped you move on?"
"No, I meant Sophomore year of high school." Sabrina says making it only worse, because Jackson never saw it coming. He was so caught up in other girls and trying to suppress the feelings he had for Sabrina that he didn't notice another moving in on her, slowly taking her away from him.
"Just think about it okay? I'd really love if you were there J," Sabrina slightly smiled before heading to the door. "I'll be there..." Jackson says softly under his breath. Although it hurt him the most to lose the one girl he's ever loved, he wanted her to be happy, that's all he ever wanted. Even in college when he wanted her to call him and tell her that she loved him back, although he thought she'd never feel the same way, he wished that she was happy.
