It's one of those days.Or:
Kirishima hangs out with a not-so-legal friend while doing hero stuff, and while he has always been a strange guy, 'Deku' was acting off.
[Implied attempted suicide]
[Its sad boi hours 😞]
—————"The stars are nice, am I right, Riot?"
The soft voice slightly augmented to be more robotic than human used to make the hero tense- but now Red Riot hums, nodding and staring up at the sky, teeth still biting into a chicken sandwich.
"Yeah," he gulps down the mouthful. "It is. Say, how many friendship points do I have to earn to hear your voice?"
Deku giggles quietly, a suitable, safe distance from Kirishima, feet hovering over the empty roads and legs hanging off the sheer edge of the building. The redhead doesn't know how calm he can be at the edge like that. Surely, the risk of getting turned into a bloody pancake would make Deku at least back up a bit?
His own legs were safely tucked under him, and he was around a foot away from the ledge, hero gear resting on his lap, heavy and weighted.
Well. The vigilante had always been known by being fearless, as said by the articles Kirishima had shuffled through. Diving in when no hero would, coming out battered but somehow fast enough to escape even Iida, and damn can he run. Best part?
So far, there were no casualties under Deku's name, not a single one.
The police officers and heroes hated him, but the civilians?
They whisper under their breath, passed notes to each other, spoke hush of the name,
'Deku.'
The embodiment of a hero than anyone else will ever be.
Because even if he's fought off big-shot villains and willingly jumped into a terrifying tsunami on live television to save a boy,
Deku stopped muggings.
Stopped some crook taking the money from a store.
Waded into a beach only reaching his waist to pull out a screaming, thrashing little girl, because she didn't know how to swim.
He worked quietly in the shadows, never harmed anyone.
The kids never tell. They never tell how Deku lifted up his mask- just a little, so they can see him smile to calm them. The adults turn to look the other way, lips tight from prying investigators, more loyal to Deku than to their own government.
Because if hero Deku was gone, who was to stop the ongoing harassment in alleyways?
To rescue a cat stuck in a tree?
To invite some Hajima Akiro to a restaurant, feeding him, eyes filled with understanding because Hajima had tried to rob him a few minutes ago. He never wanted to resort to it- but he was twelve, and his stomach grumbled and clenched because momma was too drunk to make more noodles, so he thought he can grab some green-haired stranger's wallet.
But it turned out to be Deku, their local hero.
Deku didn't turn him in, though.
'Eat more,' he'd said. 'I know you're hungry. I'll give you some cash, and you buy yourself some nice clothes and food, okay?'
Hajima was crying the whole time.
When..
When was the last time he'd had warm food?
Deku was so.. kind.
Hajima walked away from the house with a wad of cash in hand, and he pauses and turns to wave goodbye to his hero.
