"You're not just doin' this cause he's an omega, right?"

Kirishima purses his lips- and Katsuki frowns at the accusation, rubbing ice on a bruise from training earlier. "What?"

"It's just- man, I've heard about some dumb alphas that challenged General because of, you know.." he lowers his voice. "Status."

Meaning; They wanted to make the omega learn his place.

At that, Katsuki growls, though confusion is evident. "I don't want to fight him because he's an omega," he snaps, unintentionally pressing into the purple patch of skin on his leg. "I want to fight him because he's fucking strong."

It was true, really. Katsuki knows the prejudice against the 'lower' dynamic- experienced it first-hand because of his own subconscious bias as an alpha- and even did some fucked up shit that he'll never be able to take back. His mother wasn't on that soft shit- and Katsuki would quite paint her as a, well, bigot- but he knows that she lived through the time where omegas didn't even have a quarter of the rights they do now, even if it was the bare minimum.

"They're weak," his mother insists, as she turns her back on Katsuki's auntie. She looked just like his mama, but softer, meeker.

"Mitsuki," his auntie feebly begs, cheeks flushed and sniveling. "Please, Mitsuki. Please help me-" she was writhing on the ground, clutching her stomach. "Please, the herbs- my heat-"

Katsuki looks between his mother and her, unsure, eyes wide at Mistuki's inaction- but he trusts her, because she was his mother, after all. Four year old Katsuki clings harder to his mom's shirt, though her red eyes were cold and stony towards her sister.

"Pathetic." Mitsuki clutches Katsuki's wrist, firm but gentle. "Let's go, Katsuki."

(He asks, later, with watery eyes.

"Why did we leave her, mama? The- the bad guys- papa said he wanted everyone to be evacu- ecau-"

"It's 'evacuated', Katsuki. And we had to." Mitsuki says, voice cool but simmering. She sounded tired, frayed. "Her scent will attract those bad guys right to us. Besides, she was born an omega, so it makes sense that she will die as one."

He never saw auntie in the aftermath of the ambush on their town.)

He shakes the memory off.

Never again.

"It's simple- anyone who lands outside the circle loses."

Izuku gestures to the circle etched into the ground by a stick, soil slightly muddy from morning dew- but Katsuki can work through it. The blond flexes his fingers, immediately catching the eye of General, who was dressed in loose pants and a white cloth wrapping around his chest. Everything else was bare.

They were standing in a secluded spot, far from the tents- but not too far because Katsuki can still see the others running laps by Iida's orders.

Something inside him trills when he realizes that it was just General and him.

"Before we fight and shit- I wanna thank you for givin' me this chance to kick your ass."

His words were crude, but genuine nonetheless. General seems to see that because he chuckles and waves him off, stretching lightly. "You're welcome. It's been a while since I've fought by myself against one opponent, so forgive me if I'm rusty."
