Wayne and I woke up and made breakfast in the morning. He made eggs and bacon while I made pancakes and sausage. I also made some toast since I was done cooking before he was. By time Wayne finished cooking, I was already done getting dressed. As we ate, my dad called me.

"Hello?" I said into the phone.

"Hey, Nicki?" My dad asked into the phone.

"Yeah dad. It's me." I said nervously. I expected him to deliver the news from there that he was getting a divorce.

"Will you be home today?" He asked.

"Yeah. You're coming over?" I asked.

"Yea, I was hoping that I could." He said.

"Sure dad. Come on over. We're having breakfast now if you'd like to join us." I suggested.

"It's fine. I'll come over a little later. Maybe around 3." My dad said.

"Alright. See you then. Love you." I said into the phone.

"I love you too." My dad said before hanging up the phone.

Wayne looked over at me. "What did he say?"

I sighed deeply as I picked my food with a fork. "Nothing, he's just coming over today."

Wayne placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "It'll be okay, babe. I'm sure he just wants to tell you in person."

I wiped a tear falling. "I just want him to be happy. I knew that she never wanted him. She only wanted his money. Now that he sick, she want to leave him. Like who the fuck does that? Only a cold hearted person. A person who doesn't love you." I said, getting up from the table.

"Babe," Wayne called after me. But i didn't listen, I walked away and went outside for some alone time.

Soon, Wayne came outside too and hugged me, just to hold me.

"Babe, you need to eat," Wayne said softly.

"I can't eat right now." I replied.

"Please. I don't need you endangering your health. I need you Nick." Wayne kissed my forehead.

This made me feel a little better. "Aw okay, I'll finish breakfast. No promises that I'll be able to keep it down though." I smirked.

"Not funny," Wayne said, leading me back to the kitchen table.

We finished breakfast together and chilled in the living room watching tv until my dad finally arrived.

We ate lunch together in pretty uncomfortable silence. Everyone noticed it.

"Okay, so Latoya told me that she already told you the news. Yeah, we're getting a divorce. It was so unexpected. I thought we really would be together for the rest of our lives. I should have listened to you, honey." My dad tried to hug me.

I got up and hugged him. I really wasn't sure what to say. I felt so sorry for my dad. I know he really loved her.

"I'm sorry dad," I hugged him.

"It's okay. I'll be alright. I'm just worrying about my health now. The company's taken care of. You're doing well with Wayne. I have no reason to complain." My dad said smiling.

"Aw Okay." I hugged my dad.

We decided for the rest of that evening to go out to dinner and see a movie.

"So, have you guys thought about the future. Marriage? Kids?" My dad asked bluntly at dinner.

I nearly choked on my soda.

Wayne's eyes widened, but he didn't say anything either.

"Um, I guess not. Well, okay." My dad said, not  making the awkwardness any better.

"No, not like that. I mean, we just figured that we'll be together. You know?" Wayne tried to explain.

"Yea. We haven't actually talked about it, but it's implied. We're just not ready for...marriage and kids yet I guess." I said, not really knowing what to say.

"Okay, I guess that's alright." My dad said.

"Yup." I said, breaking the awkward silence.

After the movie, we went back to the house. My dad looked tired.

"Well, it was really nice hanging out with you borh today. It gets kind of lonely and boring alone at the house now. Plus I have nothing to do since I pretty much spent all day working at the company." My dad said.

"Aw, you need to call up some of your old friends and go hang with them." I said.

"Eh, no one wants to hang out with those old men." My dad scrunched up his face.

Wayne and I laughed before giving him a hug so that he could leave. Wayne did the same.

After Nicki's Dad Leaves

"Wow, today was cool. Your dad is funny." Wayne said.

"How?" I asked curiously.

"The awkward moment at the restaurant. About marriage and kids." Wayne said.

"Oh yea, true. But we really haven't talked about it." I said, realizing that out of all this time we've actually never talked about the future.

"Well, it's not to late to start," Wayne said, pulling me on his lap as we cuddled on the couch together.

"Of course we gon get married, that's not a question." Wayne said, moving the topic over to kids.

"Well, I don't know how many kids I want, but definitely more than one." I said, thinking about what it would be like to have kids by Wayne.

"I want two boys and two girls." Wayne said.

"Four, huh," I said, thinking that was a lot of little ones running around.

"Yea, or maybe more." Wayne winked.

"haha, you must be going to carry some of them then." I joked.

Wayne started cracking up laughing.

"I don't think you would want me to carry them. Especially the girls. We would have some ugly babies." Wayne said, covering his eyes like the apple monkey emoji.

I started laughing at him.

"Then, you may want to come down on that number. How am I supposed to give birth to four kids? That's way too many." I laughed.

Wayne laughed. "Well, how many do you want then?" Wayne asked.

"At least two." I said.

"Well, all you do is multiply that by two and we good." Wayne joked.

"We gon clone our kids?" I laughed.

"Maybe they'll make some type of cloning machine by then." Wayne said.

"Aww then we'll have two sets of twins." I said, thinking about what it would be like to have twins.

"Twins...interesting." Wayne began to think too.

"Twins would be cute. Dressing them all alike and stuff." I giggled.

"If they're girls, they'll be my little princesses. I'd spoil the hell out of them." Wayne said.

I shook my head. "You gonna make them brats."

"Nahh, daddy's little angels." Wayne thought.

"Aw that's cute. But what if they're boys." I said, thinking for a moment.

"I'd teach them how to play sports, be tough but nice to the ladies." Wayne said.

"You'd probably make them players." I joked.

"Hmm," Wayne thought.

"Nahh, because breaking girls hearts is not cool." I said.

"True." Wayne agreed.

They continued to chat until they both fell asleep on the couch together.
