The next morning, it was 7 AM. Wayne and I were in deep sleep when my mom began knocking on the door rapidly. I shifted in bed before getting up to open the door.
"C'mon, you guys gotta get up or you won't have enough time to eat breakfast." My mom said energetically. She was already dressed and ready to go.
My mom was always an early bird, unlike Wayne and me.
"Okay," I said before closing the door again. I instantly regretted agreeing to go to church with my mom today.
I groaned before waking Wayne up. He reacted the same way as me. Eventually though, we both were up and now searching for clothes to wear to church.
I got in the shower since I got my clothes together first. After showering, Wayne did the same. I waited for him to finish getting dressed before we both went downstairs to join my mom and dad for breakfast.
Wayne and I began walking downstairs at around 9:15. My dad had his suit on, but hadn't tied his tie yet. Wayne and I were a little underdressed because we weren't planning on going to church in the first place. Wayne wore a polo shirt and black jeans with dress shoes. I wore a blouse with pants that weren't really "dress attire" and a pair of flats.
My mom and dad thought that we looked fine, and so we just went with the flow.
We waited until my mom had sat down at the table before we all ate. There were waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, chopped fruit, and orange juice. We all ate for about an hour before we left to head to church. My dad decided to drive his vehicle, and Wayne and me sat in the back seat while my parents were in the front.
We got to church around 10:45. Fifteen minutes before service would start. My dad and mom went their separate ways, and Wayne pretty much was with me.
"I haven't been here in so long. There's so many people that I remember playing with as a child. I'll introduce you so you won't feel so alone." I said, intertwining Wayne's and my arm.
Soon, a few people began to walk towards me. They were excited to see me.
I held a conversation with a few of them, giving them hugs and introducing them to Wayne.
A familiar face though, gained eye contact with me. He began to walk over to Wayne and me.
"Hello Nicki," The tall, brown-skinned, handsome man smiled once he got in front of me.
"Hello Jacob," I smiled back.
He gave me a hug. "How have you been? I haven't seen you in forever." He said.
"I know, and I'm doing well. How are you?" I asked, smiling at the fact that I hadn't seen Jacob since we were like 16.
"I'm doing well. I'm still singing in the church." Jacob said.
"Wow, you haven't changed. Is your voice still as good as before?" I asked.
"Well, you'll see in a few minutes. I'm singing today." Jacob said.
I laughed. "I guess, I will then."
Wayne cleared his throat. Both Jacob and me looked at him.
"I'm sorry. Jacob, this is my boyfriend Wayne. Wayne, this is an old childhood friend..Jacob." I said.
Jacob extended his hand, but Wayne hesitated before shaking his hand.
As soon as Jacob and Wayne did their greeting, the church was about to start. Everyone began sitting down. Wayne and I sat down near my parents. Jacob sat where the choir sits.
