[4 WEEKS LATER]
[Graqiin Island, New World. 3 cities, 2 harbors, population: 75,000]
Pine trees crowded the fall island, rolling hills quiet and bland if spotted from the sea. A few huddles of lights dotted the dark, secluded villages on the long, thin island of Graquiin. Anyone sailing closer from the West could see craggy perimeters with the brightest cluster of lights nestled on the tip of the land, two rickety docks reaching into the ocean waves. And if a person stood on the sandy shore, they'd stare up at rows of brick houses and shanties climbing the hills, with a few domes and a single church belfry rising above the rest of the buildings.
A nice, simple, cozy, boring island.

Not where marine captain Tashigi pictured her criminal debut.
[the center of town, three-story brick buildings crammed tight and climbing towards the sky]
TASHIGI POV:
"Oh my gosh-" I stop and cringe at the piercing alarm, turning to glare at the source. "It's 1am on a Tuesday! No regard for public noise regula-"
I stare wide eyed at the speakers bolted to the top of a church– marine sirens blasting through the quiet town– jaw dropped and goosebumps raising on my skin.
"Shit"
Those are for me
I stumble back, still staring up until I shake my head and trip over my feet, spinning and racing back down the cobblestone road.
THEY KNOW.
How do they know?!!
Nononono- i can't get caught!
I memorized their rounds! Guards shouldn't have discovered the broken window- Oh gosh the broken window;
I slam past a pair of yodeling drunks and keep running, clutching a log pose and crumpled blueprints to my stomach.
Stolen log pose and crumpled blueprints.
'Rieno' is etched in white cursive on both wood and paper.
WWWEEEAAAAAAARRRRROOOOOOOWWWEEEEEEAAAAAARRROOOOOO
oh gosh ohgosh ohgosh Why are they so loud?! and "Were they always this terrifying?" I wheeze, eyes wide as I skid to a stop and bolt down a side street.
"It's almost like-" I huff
"-abandoning your ship," a knapsack bounces on my back,
"swimming 10 miles to shore," water squelches in my pink boots with each step,
"and IMMEDIATELY breaking into the local marine base and stealing navigation equipment-" I grunt
"- was a BAD IDEA."
A door slams open ahead
WWWEEEAAAAAAARRRRROOOOOOOWWWEEEEEEAAAAAARRROOOOOO
And a trio of drunk grandmothers totter into the road, laughing and screeching about a recent pie challenge.
I stand several feet behind them, frozen stiff from anticipation, hand gripping Shigure's hilt. Ready to kill. I was ready to kill. Slowly, I start walking again, face pale; slipping past the group now also yodeling in the middle of the street.
How far will I go to stay free? If Marines are armed and ready to kill-
"Just, don't get caught." I mumble, shoving back the moral crisis. "Don't get caught, don't get caught~"
