Flashback
Charlotte arrived at school, early as usual. She couldn't bear to go back to her house and face Lauren who came over for support last night. Lauren has already done so much for her that she didn't want to trouble her with ongoing problems with Henry. Lauren had her own problems to deal with and she knew that Lauren must be getting tired of the sick cycle she had put herself through. Lauren would love nothing more than to see her two friends together but even she just kept seeing Charlotte's heart getting broken by each passing day.
Charlotte went through her planner and was sad that she had finished all her homework and already complete all her upcoming term papers and projects. She was sad because the school had been the only thing to really keep her distracted and kept her mind off of Henry. Cheerleading had turned out to be a double-edged sword, seeing Henry all the time but not being with him was just a cruel tease.
She sighed to herself as her mind drifted off back to him. How did her life get so complicated so fast? A year and a half ago, she was your somewhat normal high school student, now she felt like she had enough drama to last her a lifetime. She hated how much she needed him and she hated the fact that she now caused him so much pain. But now, she didn't know what to do. He didn't want her and that was enough for her to crawl under in a ball and cry her eyes out.
She applied to both Duke and UCLA and got accepted into both. In a heartbeat, she would go to Duke and follow Henry. It had been a dream of hers to go to UCLA but pales in comparison to life without Henry. For so long now she fought hard to keep their friendship afloat. She could barely hum while she took a shower, the sparkle and magic of singing were completely lost to her now . Even UCLA started to lose its appeal. Without Henry, what was the point she thought to herself?
And i thought I got here early. Jasper said from behind her. Charlotte snapped out of her thoughts and greeted Jasper.
Are you ok? Jasper asked curiously
Yeah, she lied. They talked for a minute before she excused herself and headed for the tutoring center where she started helping out. She still had time to kill and students would often stop by and ask her for help. As she was walking in to begin her first student for the day she saw it was Piper who was there for some advice. But before Piper could even say a word Charlotte heard people screaming and running out. Everyone in the tutoring center looked around, unsure of what was going on.
Flashback over
And back to our lead story, where tragedy has struck Swellview high school. A disgruntled 17-year-old student Miguel Santos brought a gun to school and held a classroom of students hostage, among the hostages was a fellow student was Charlotte Page, a victim of a sexual assault that happened with the shooter on Dec. 27th of last year. She managed to convince the troubled teen to release her and the hostages, Sadly though struck when Santos agreed to release his fellow students, he tried to shoot himself but then got into a physical altercation with Charlotte who hit the gun to the ground and upon it dropping to the floor, the gun hit the ground striking Charlotte......
Jasper turned off the tv in the waiting room, he couldn't bear to the story again. Henry who was sitting down with his head down also relieved. The two friends were alone in the waiting room, while Lauren and Piper were in a another room. Henry felt claustrophobic and didn't want to deal with so many people. Jasper stayed with him while they waited to hear word about Charlotte's condition.
Charlotte had managed to stay calm and collective and possibly helped save the lives of the other hostages. According to Piper, Charlotte convinced Miguel to let everyone go but as he did, He tried to shoot himself and Charlotte tried to take the gun away but the gun ended up falling on the ground and fired a shot right at Charlotte. The door opens and the doctor entered.
Mr. Hart?
Yes. Henry responded standing up
The good news, she's going to be okay. Henry never felt more relieved. We managed to remove the bullet and stabilize her. Her heart rate dropped suddenly during surgery but that was due to a large amount of blood loss. Given her young age and remarkable health, we see no reason why she shouldn't make a full recovery, but we still need to keep a close eye on her. We are moving her to her room now.
Can I see her? Henry asked
Of course, I'll send a nurse over to tell you when it's okay, but I must warn you that given her blood loss and anesthesia, she may be knocked out for sometime Henry nodded and thanked the doctor.
Once he left, Henry broke down again and Jasper was right there to catch him. We came so close to losing her again Henry said with tears in his eyes.
Look, like the doctor said, she's going to be fine .. she will be fine and she is not going anywhere.
you don't understand Jasp, it's my fault.. my fault she was there...if I didn't push her away this morning...
Hen, look you can't do this to yourself.. what's done is done.. you didn't know this way going to happen.
Tell her that.. she loves you.. she understands Just then a nurse walked in and told them that Henry can come up.
Go. Jasper said I'll tell the others the good news.
To be continued......
If you thought the first 14 chapters were crazy then you don't know what I have planned for this book then. All I can say is that You will not be disappointed.
