"Papa, come on! Help us cook!" Huffle tugged at Tristan's arm. "Taste this! Tell us if it's good!"
"Sure, princess." He smiled. "But can I talk to your mom first? I missed her too, you know."
That made Maricar feel a little lighter. She knew he meant it. And he was right—they needed to talk first.
There was so much she had to explain.
"Dominic..." Tristan acknowledged him with a nod. "Can I excuse my wife for a moment?"
Dominic nodded in return. Tristan gently took her hand and led her upstairs into her room.
The night was quiet. The room even quieter. But Maricar felt the pounding of her heart.
She was nervous.
"Tristan..."
"I thought something happened to you," he said softly, placing his duffel bag on the bed. "You weren't answering any of my calls."
She lowered her gaze. She didn't have a good excuse.
"Baby... I'm so sorry," she whispered. "I'm not hiding anything... I've just been sleeping a lot lately because of the nausea. I was about to tell you about Slyther's birthday..."
Tristan opened the cabinet and grabbed a shirt, undressing in front of her. It distracted her more than she wanted to admit.
"Go on, I'm listening," he said.
"The car broke down at the resort. Dominic had to drive us back, but Ate was with us..." she explained. "He just returned the car today. I didn't even invite him—it was the kids who invited him around."
He sat on the bed and held out his arms, pulling her gently onto his lap.
"I'm really sorry... I left my phone in the car. I didn't even realize because... well, I've been sleeping nonstop."
He wrapped his arms around her, kissed her shoulder, caging her in.
"Is that all?" he whispered. "He just seemed so... at home. How often has he been coming over?"
Maricar bit her lip. She was getting more and more distracted. His hands were wandering, and honestly—she didn't want him to stop.
Damn these hormones.
"Baby, stop torturing me," she breathed. "You're still mad at me..."
"No, I'm not," he whispered against her skin. "I'm just asking."
"Damn it, Tristan..." she cursed—both of them surprised, since she rarely used that kind of language. "Stop making your baby momma wait."
"What?"
She cupped his face and kissed him. "I've been dying to tell you. But I wanted to see that look on your face." She chuckled, tears in her eyes.
"I'm pregnant."
His expression changed instantly—a rush of joy and wonder in his eyes. He wasn't surprised, like had been anticipating this.
"You're pregnant..." he echoed, then kissed her deeply. "When did you find out?"
"Can we stop talking and just take me already?" she pleaded, pulling him closer. "I'll tell you everything after. Just finish what you started..."
"Okay," he murmured, "Cover that beautiful mouth of yours, baby... We need to be quiet."
"That's our talent," she replied with a smirk.
And he did take her. Maricar couldn't even describe the joy she felt every time they came together like this.
