*flashback to the first time they met

"Steve! Where'd you go?!" Alexis called, looking for her twin brother. She turned the corner of the street, seeing her brother talking to a boy their age. They were sat on a bench, just talking. Her little eight year old legs moved her quickly to him, her voice still calling for him. Both boys looked in her direction as she neared. Alexis gripped her arms, rubbing them to generate some warmth.

"Steve, Mom wants you home for dinner now," she said. Steve nodded, standing up.

"Who's this?" The boy asked. Steve sighed, pointing a hand at Alexis.

"Alexis, this is Bucky, my friend. Bucky, this is Alexis, my twin sister," he introduced them. Bucky smiled, walking towards her.

"Nice to meet you, I'm James Buchanan Barnes, but you can call me Bucky," he said. Alexis smiled back.

"I'm Alexis Sarah Rogers, but you can call me Lex," she said.

"Okay, Lex. I'll see you later Steve," Bucky said, waving to Steve as he walked away backwards. Steve waved back, yelling a farewell to his newfound friend.

"C'mon, I'm cold," Alexis said.

*a new flashback, when they're about 20, 21

"Hey Bucky!" Bucky smiled and waved at the popular girl, walking by the back tables. Alexis walked by his side, staring down at the floor as he called out to numerous pretty girls. He was chased after by many girls wanting to dance with thr handsome young boy. He glanced at Alexis, seeing her downtrodden expression. He shoved her lightly.

"Hey, what's up Lex?" He asked. Alexis clutched her arm tighter to her side.

"Nothing," she mumbled, her eyes on the tile floor. Bucky sighed.

"Hey, come on. Seriously, what's up?" He asked. Alexis did not meet his eyes.

"Nothing! Let's just get Steve," she bit back, aggravated. Bucky said a quiet 'ok', pulling her through the dancing club type thing to find her brother.

"Hey, if you're looking for Steve, he left!" Nancy, a friend of Alexis' called to her.

"Oh, thanks Nanc!" Alexis yelled back. Nancy smiled with a nod, going back to her boyfriend.

"Guess we're walking home alone," Bucky said. Alexis nodded.

They began walking, the clouds in the sky drifting over their heads. It was a dark and cold day. Alexis shook in the cold as the wind bit her skin. Bucky caught sight of this, shaking off his coat and placing it on her shoulders. Alexis did not say anything, she just pulled it tightly around her. Bucky laughed lightly.

"So, um.. do ya want to talk about what's up with you?" He asked. Alexis sighed.

"No," she said. Bucky shook his head.

"You sure?" He asked. Alexis nodded.

"C'mon, I'm your best friend. You can tell me anything!" Bucky exclaimed. Alexis sighed again.

"Not everything, J," she said.

"Like what?" Bucky asked. It began to sprinkle, the two shifting to the side to go under the roof ledges.

"Like.. like.. I can't tell you," Alexis said, looking up at him.

"C'mon, Lexi!"

"No!"

"Please?"

"No."

"Pretty please?"

"No."
