Eventually, Steve moved out of Alexis' house, getting a place of his own. Alexis went back to work for SHIELD and was out on missions constantly. At the present moment, Alexis was on a mission in Pakistan, trying to take out a HYDRA base. Steve was surprised to find that HYDRA was still active, but was continually determined to take them down. Alexis calmed him down and said "maybe later" before leaving.
This time, the mission was in Pakistan and she was due to be back in almost three whole months. This was a longer amount of time than normal, but Alexis simply did as she was told. Steve was not too happy about it, seeing as it was a dangerous mission and she would be gone for a quarter of the year, but he knew that she could take care of herself. However, Alexis was more nervous than normal, seeing as the mission's design was to take down the entire Pakistani HYDRA system which consisted of only three bases. But, it was still an entire system.
Before she left, Fury told her of the Avengers Initiative; it was designed to put together a group of remarkable people and see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needd them to, to fight the battles that SHIELD or the army or the government never could. Fury recruited her before she manned the mission, and Alexis, of course, accepted his offer. She was the first on his list and the first to accept.
And so, she left in February of 2012 on her mission with a small group of remarkable agents, aiming to take down a HYDRA division.
"You take care of yourself, kay?" Alexis asked, saying goodbye to her brother. Steve rolled his eyes.
"I'll be fine. Don't die," he instructed.
"Okay. I know you'll be fine, it's just the older sister in me," she said with a small smirk.
"You aren't even older!" Steve said, exasperated. Alexis chuckled.
"I know, I'm not," she said. "But, you are only older by three minutes, so you can't say much either."
"Stay safe."
"Always do."

The idea was for Alexis to get into the HYDRA system, claiming to be an agent. She would slowly gain information and slip some of the SHIELD agents into the main base, taking down the online system as a different team went to the otehr bases and, well, blew them up. Once Alexis and her team were out, they would blow the main one. However, they needed to get their system offline and shut down before, because everything they had would still be able to be salvaged and/or used in another area. They had already arrived, and Alexis was set to leave for the main base as soon as possible. She was claiming to be a 'Enaya Rivera' from the Austin division. SHIELD hackers put records of her in both the Austin and Multan systems, the Multan being in Pakistan. She had brown hair and green contacts as well as a pair of thick glasses to seal the deal. Alexis walked quickly with short, clumsy steps up to the front.
"mrhbana , 'ama , 'ana 'anaya ryfyra , min qism 'uwstin (Hi, um, I-I'm Enaya Rivera f-from the Au-Austin division)," she said, shaking her voice to sell the act. She showed him her badge with shaky hands. The man at the front clicked around his computer, a frightening look on his face.
"'adhhab 'iilaa hunak , wasawf takun fi alttabiq alsuflii fi alghurfat tiseat eashar (Go through there, you'll be downstairs in room 19)," he said. Alexis nodded, her breath wavering to seem like she was a petite, shy girl, which was actually quite contrary to who she was under all the disguises. You see, 'Enaya' was going to be an IT girl for this division, having complete access to the computers and information. Usually, HYDRA would cover her well, making sure she was who she said she was, but they already had records of her in their systems saying that she had worked there for nearly four years. It was almost like a waiter taking an order, but once you become a regular they do not need to. Alexis walked to the staircase leading down to the IT room, clutching her brown leather satchel close to her chest. Finding room 19 quickly, she entered and found two other women in there already. One smiled, the other paying zero attention to the newcomer.
"marhabaan , 'ana kural. hal tatakalam allughat al'iinjalizia? (Hi, I'm Coral. Do you speak English?)," the smiling woman said, holding her hand out for Alexis to shake. Alexis nodded. The lady had bright red hair and freckles, a red lipstick to match. The other girl had raven locks and dark eyes, and was chewing bright pink bubble gum loudly. She had earbuds in and was on her phone.
"I-I'm Enaya," Alexis said, shaking her hand carefully. Coral laughed lightly.
"No need to be nervous. I know, it's a dangerous business that we're in, but it pays well. And besides, we're IT girls, what trouble can we get into?" She asked, laughing again at the end. A lot, Alexis thought.
"Right," she said instead, her voice small. Coral showed her her desk and told her what they were supposed to do throughout the day to avoid being fired. It seemed easy enough.
"Where are you from?" Coral asked.
"Texas," Alexis replied.
"Oh! I'm from Illinois! I got transferred here two years ago though," Coral said.
"Oh, cool," Alexis said, not knowing entirely what she should say.
"Well, that's all," Coral said, referring back to the mini-tour.
"Okay, thank you Coral," Alexis said. Coral smiled brightly.
"Oh, no problem honey!" She said. Alexis took a seat on the opposite side of the room from the brunette and Coral, pulling out her phone and reporting back to base.
"Who ya texting?" Coral asked after a few hours. Alexis' eyes snapped up, putting the phone in her pocket.
"Oh, uh, no one," she said. Coral smiled at the girl.
"Who's the boy?" She asked. Alexis' eyes widened. There had not been a boy since.. well.. since Bucky.
"What boy?"
"The one you're texting," Coral said.
"No, I'm not texting anyone," Alexis argued.
"C'mon, what's his name?" Coral pushed.
"No."
"Yeah! Please."
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"Pretty, pretty please?"
"Fine," Alexis paused, trying to think of a name.
"So, what's his name?" Coral asked. A name popped into Alexis' head. She decided to use it, seeing as it looked suspicious to not have a name.
"Ethan," she said quickly. Ethan was the name of a boy she had a crush on in high school. He was before she like-liked Bucky, and he even asked her out at one point. But, he cheated on her with Britanny Hall, the school's cool girl. After that, Bucky punched him in the nose, breaking it and causing him to wear tape over it for a little over two weeks. It was after that, that Alexis began crushing on Bucky Barnes.
"Oooh, Ethan," Coral said. Alexis pretended to blush, hiding her face behind her hair.
"Is this guy back in Texas?" Coral asked. Alexis nodded.
"Yeah, but he still wants a relationship," she said.
"Do you want a relationship?" Coral asked. Alexis shrugged.
"Eh, he cheated on me, but I gave him another chance," she said. Coral gasped.
"Why?" She asked. Alexis shrugged, going to play a character.
"Because no other guy would want to date me," she said, looking down at the floor.
"No, no. I'm sure that's not true. There's probably some other guy, right?" Coral asked. Alexis shrugged.
"Not really," she said. Coral smiled.
"Well, you dump that crap of a boyfriend and we will find you a real guy," she said. Alexis shook her head violently.
"No, no, no, no, it's really okay," she said. Coral smiled, shaking her head as well.
"No, it's not," she said. "Ya know what? We're gonna be best friends." Alexis nodded and smiled.
"Yeah."
