This is horrible tbh. Its just a chapter to get Lani and Calum engaged in conversations about themselves. Sorry if its boring.

Lani

Not long after I busted through the library doors, I found myself sprinting faster than ever. And its rare when I run so if I am, it’s probably because someone took my phone or there’s something chasing me. Luke told me once that when we were little, he would always tease me by taking my favorite pen away. He says I have improved in running, but I really had no use for it until now.

Now here I am running through bushes and trees, chasing a wild stranger with my phone. It has happened a couple times, but I easily tackled them down. But man, Calum had been fast like a cheetah.

“GIVE IT BACK!” I yelped as I almost tripped over a big rock. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel tired at all, which was weird because any physical activity I do will drain my energy out.

I chased Calum all the way to an open soccer field. I could tell he was starting to lose strength because of his loud pants of air. Suddenly, he went to a stop and I crashed into him without thinking of stopping. I tackled him, taking my phone out of his pocket and rolling to lie on the ground beside him. The sky was clear blue, without any clouds blocking the sun. The sun shined upon us, tanning my pale skin. A nice breeze came in as I sat up, ruffling my hair to get all the grass out, possibly one of Australia’s great days. It felt like a utopia for a second, just lying down on the floor beside an attractive boy, and looking up to the sky. I licked my lips, having the feeling of a drink. Starbucks would be good right now.

Once I had enough energy back, I stood up and brushed rocks off my pants. I looked to see Calum watching with a slight grin. “What are you looking at?”

“Nothing,” he replied quietly. Getting up, he took off his black jacket and hung it across his shoulder. “Starbucks?”

I nodded, looking around the old vintage place. I’d never visited this town before. But it looked pleasant and cute like a small town where children lived. I liked old towns because they were more cozy and travelable by feet. There were small antique shops here, full of mysterious and amazing little things. Though, it didn’t look like a place where there was Starbucks.

As if sensing my worriedness for no coffee, Calum placed a hand on my shoulder, causing that spot to tingle underneath his grasp. “Don’t worry, there’s a Starbucks down the street here.” He turned around and started walking. I ran to catch up to him.

As we were walking, I saw kids skipping down the sidewalks as their parents held hands at the back, watching their small children. Playful laughs echoed in the streets as both kids “mistakenly” bumped into each other. I looked in the shops as we passed store to store. They were mostly all souvenirs or fancy restaurants that were blocked from all us peasants. As I passed by restaurants, the sweet aurora caught my nose, making me stop and smell inside. Calum would have to tap me, making me conscious again that I just got tapped by a fucking boy. Even the people here were kind. Every person I passed by either gave me a bright smile or a generous nod. Life here seemed… peaceful. I should come here more often.
