'Curse your mistletoes'

"Yes, Diana. I'll be there this afternoon," Anne says to her bosom friend over the phone. "Yes, I'll bring Marilla's cookies and profiteroles, How can I forget?"

Diana ranted to Anne to remember things for the Christmas sleepover party Moody was hosting later that night.  She wanted it to be perfect.

"Okay Diana. I hear you, i hear you and i'll be there after I come back from a church service with Marilla and Matthew, alright? I love you bye," Anne ends the call and shuts off her phone.

"She seems excited," Cole chuckles. Cole and Anne were out together in town to get some last minute presents and food for their party. Anne looked through her list and skimmed her eyes through all the stores down the road.

"So I got Diana the bag, that makeup pallet for Janey, Tilly that limited edition guitar strap, Charlie's merch got delivered in today," Anne started listing.

"Merch?"

"Yeah ,just from that one band he likes," Anne explains. "Ah, still need to get to buy something for Moody and Ruby. Remind me to never leave the present buying to the last minute."

Anne, Diana and Cole hadn't talked to Ruby properly since the situation at Josephine Barry's party. It wasn't like they wanted to either to her either since she wasn't sensitive about the whole situation.

   "Gilbert," Cole spits out.

Anne looked around confused as she paused in her tracks. "Huh?"

"You haven't got anything for Gilbert," Cole states.

Anne has been so busy and caught up with other things for her friends she'd forgotten about getting something for Gilbert. It's briefly crossed her mind once about a week before Christmas but Anne had been up in her pride too much to give it another thought.

It wasn't like she didn't care about him because as a matter of fact, she did. Anne didn't understand where Gilbert stood in her life either. He was so nice and kind to her and all she's seen him as was an academic rival. Friendship? Felt way out of the equation.

But Cole believed that she was just afraid of letting another person in to her life. Even though he and Diana were so close to Anne, her walls stood high and strong. Like a fortress made of stone that surrounded princess Cordelia's palace.  There were times where they could tell she was upset or hurting but she was so good keeping her emotions at bay and they didn't want to force her to open up to them. Nevertheless, they loved her more than anything because she was the one who tried carrying all of their burdens and expected nothing in return.

"Well, you didn't get anything for Gilbert... Blythe?" Cole asked hesitantly. They both took a seat on the bench in front of the bakery to rest their feet. It had been snowing and was undoubtedly freezing but it was a beautiful view.

"Oh," was all that came out of Anne's mouth.

"I may not be close to him but I just know that your name would've been one of, if anything, the top of his list when he went Christmas shopping," Cole stated but Anne shook her head in denial.

"Cole, have you lost your mind?" Anne giggles. "I bet he couldn't care less about getting me something and frankly, I don't really care." Anne had to admit to herself, that was a half lie.
